Hello everyone,

I'm thinking of building a retro gaming pc to relive the win98se gaming era. Does anyone know where to get working hardware from that time?

If the CPUs I've got are still working, I'd probably need a motherboard and maybe RAM as well. I've got on hand a P3 Slot-1 CPU and a P3 Socket 370 CPU.

The mobos I've got aren't really working properly, sadly. Maybe they could be serviced? If so, where can I get them looked at?

Appreciate any and all advice, thanks!

u can buy replacement mobos from sls 4th floor. look at the backlane shops on both sides. they sell and display lots of old second hand stuff in their shop. you can also ask them to repair your boards for u but it can be expensive. might be cheaper to buy their second hand boards instead of repairing yours.

on the other hand, if u want to fix your stuff... usually the fault with old mobos are the electrolytic capacitors. since those p3 boards are nearly 20 years old. the caps on them are most likely gone case. look for bloated caps and leaking caps that have spilt goo all over the board.

if u can find the right replacement low-esr caps for them, u can still bring some of these boards back to life. look around SLT and see if any shops there provide soldering services for capacitors for you or u can also elect to diy the whole thing yourself if u studied electronics in a tertiary institute before.

98 SE? I got a Pentium 4 set up stored away, just pay me a token sum.

Add: Pentium 3 aren't literally 20 years old, it is a figure of speech my Pentium 2 was bought in 1999 so that's 16yo now...

just get the intel computerstick or some china brand equivalent and try to install a clean w98. Cheaper and still more powerful :s13:

If its just to play games, use emulator like gdoom, dosbox, or scummvm.

Even if u can assemble a win98 PC, doesn't mean the game will run
