I'm trying to save a Gigabyte motherboard that is suffering from the Main CMOS Checksum Error continuous loop. It is out of warranty and CDL says they don't service out of warranty boards.

I have tried methods suggested in several overseas forums - replacing the CMOS battery, using RAM and PSU from a different system - same thing.

I'm now hoping that I can get the BIOS chip replaced. Is there any place locally that can provide this service? Appreciate if anyone can advise.

No DualBIOS meh? Thought most Gigabyte boards have it. Anyway, forget it. Just buy a refurbished or second hand board. The price probably the same.

I didn't a BIOS chip hot swap at SLS a long long time ago i.e. AMD Athlon time. BTW, a hot swap is to boot the motherboard with a good BIOS chip and remove the good chip, put back the corrupted chip and reflash it. So, I guess those backlane repair shops at SLS might be able to do it. Or look for a similar model motherboard at the SLS backlane shops.

At POST I get the following:

Warning: MAIN BIOS CHECKSUM ERROR!
Retrieving recovery source from HPA ...
Unavailable HPA BIOS!!...
Retrieving recovery source from Backup BIOS ...

And then it will reboot automatically and it is a continuous loop. I am not able to enter Setup or QFlash. So it looks like the only option is to find a way to get the BIOS chip replaced.

Is there any particular backlane shop that is recommended for such work?

15+ years ago, I did a re-write of my Bios chip for my Gigabyte board at the backlane shop at level 6. Not sure if it is still around. $40, 15 min job.

I had 2 identical boards, took out the goid one and asked them to copy n load it in. Don't know now still can do or not. Back then was using EEPROM, the chip with a window in the middle.

Common GA issue...

My thread from long long ago
Gigabyte mainboards - Recovering from the BIOS error & auto-recovering loop

Other suggestions which may help
[Gigabyte Motherboard Issue] "Main BIOS Checksum Error!" - BIOS - Motherboards

btw, you should at least state which specific mobo model.

Been years since we last met at SLS, how have you been? :)

Its an EP45-UD3P (Rev 1.0, if that helps). Problem is, hitting Del does not work, and when it gets to "Recovering from Backup BIOS ... it will reboot and the loop starts over and over again :(

Restart the system. During the POST, press the <End> key to enter Q-Flash

not press "DEL" key
