Try John 3:16, they are very sincere and willing to speak to their customers.

but talk is not cheap.

yes agreed. John 3:16's unique in its preposition to customers. they offer superb, genuine and sincere advice to the point it's like a friend recommending another. however, their products are usually priced slightly higher than the rest of the shops in the same location.

depends on what you really want. take a peep inside their shop, usually people looking more affluent : )

Really? I always go to TK Foto, Cathay Photo to get a quotation on whatever product I intend to purchase before going to John 3:16. The prices 316 offer me has been the same for all my past 4 purchases (I thought most big vendors in Funan have price guides to follow so they don't kill each other). And they always offer to best service so naturally I always go to them for my purchases.

you don't need those to be honest.

the price is so much cheaper that you can select specified brands and items instead of getting those free brandless freebies from mega stores.

eg. free 1 might throw you an AKARUI Dry cabi
buying yourself you could choose for instance Digi-Cabi Dry cabi

end up, you will still save + you get a better item of your choice

just an example.

how much lower can the price be?

saw a canon 700d by Gain City going at $1399 (2 lens)and it come with the following bundle:

8 + 16gb SD Card
EOS bag
card reader
extra battery
wireless remote control
KATA DSLR bag
21L electronic Dry cabinet
$100 shopping vouchers

OR the electronics fair at the expo

$1099 (1 len)

8 + 32gb
DSLR bag
tripod
cleaning kit
card reader
UV filter
wireless remote control
extra battery
dry box

which i tot is a decent deal.

while u may be right that, one may not need all those freebies and can get a better quality one since quite likely the freebies are the cheaper choices put together and already priced in.

700D - last check was $880 (body alone)

Which 2 lens? 18-55 ($100) + 50mm d ($118)?
i rather you invest you $ on a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 (2nd hand)

Memory card Class 4 (Usually) <$20
save it by changing to a class 10 card with bigger cap yourself

Card Reader USB2.0 (Usually) <$5
go online get a USB3.0 card reader. You will find it useful down the road

Extra Battery - 3rd party or original?

Wireless Remote - 3rd party or original?
easily obtain 1 at <$5

KATA DSLR Bag - small bag?

21L?
A 36L Digi-Cabi cost you $118 + 5 years warranty

tripod
Usually lao sai 1, the legs are tiny

cleaning kit <$5
get it free when buy notebook

UV filter <$20
cheap 1s are no good

dry box <$30
You will 1 to skip this

btw, the current promotion for Canon is this

PROMOTIONS
SD 8GB card and EOS BAG
Online warranty promo:Option Purchase with Purchase ( PWP ) of EF S55-250 F4-5.6 IS II @$99 ( usual $499 ) OR Free $100 shopping vouchers
Purchase-with-purchase: EF S60 F2.8 M USM @ $659 ( usual $899 ) , EF 50F1.4 USM @ $559 ( usual $699 ), EF 24-70 F2.8 L II USM @ $2719 ( usual $3399 ) & SPEEDLITE 430EX @ $389 ( usual $579 )

meaning, you get most of the items "free". That means to say if you purchase at Funan, you will likely get the items above mentioned as well.

I won't say you have save much but you get to choose the items by reputation level and for the long run, it makes more sense. just my 2cents.

if you are a photographer for awhile, i will say - depends on your need.

imo, the $99 is a fine price for the lens

The IS lens is good. Check and ensure that it is clean and in good condition before buying. Many a times, deals that are too good to be true, aren't really good in reality. You could still take the 100 voucher. It is not just 99, it's 100+99 = $199, since you will be forgoing the voucher. RRP is 499 and shops are selling around 399. That's 50% the price. If you look at the reviews for this lens, it is actually quite good for its price.

It's a good amateur lens at a great price. You probably wont use it for more than 2% of your photos but no harm getting it either haha.

Btw, there is a buying guide for cameras (under the dslr sub-forum) - http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/dslr-world-262/faq-where-purchase-dslr-[part-2]-1788167.html

Lastly, i think Gribber made a great post comparing the major electronic stores vs specialised shops comparison. If you want to get a package quick and easy, go for the Best Denki deals. If you know what you want specifically for every item, source the best deals yourself. Many of these "freebies" are not as useful/good as it seems.
