Hi Guys,

Intending to purchase Mac Mini(Late 2012) soon.

Can please advice where can i go to upgrade the RAM and HDD to SSD?

SSD - Reusing from old laptop(Samsung 840 x2)
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8GB x2 (1600Mhz) from existing laptop

Or is it worth it to get the OWC mod kit and diy myself?

Thanks.

I thought apple is not going to release mac mini anymore, hopefully new mac mini will have a dedicated GPU.

Just a little scared with delicate parts even thou i diy normal average PCs, and need to buy the OWC toolkit (USD$35+/-) to do the upgrades right?

I think its still ongoing - still see people in forums talking about what to expect for 13/14 mac mini till this date.... so think its still going out, esp with a new Haswell cpu now.

Don't need the vastly overprices OWC toolkit. Just look up the tutorials on iFixit.com. Mac Mini can be taken apart with everyday tools.

Are you referring to the OWC data doubler kit (for installing second drive) or OWC tools for modding? Because I think the responses above are referring to the tools you could use.

Does the default Mac mini comes with 2x Sata port or have to order the Server version to get 2x sata port?

Intending to put 2x SSD inside. For windows, i usually keep my apps/os on first disk, data on 2nd disk. Any issues, will re-image back using my ghost original image to the primary disk.

Can follow the same for mac?

You need at least the Mac Mini Server Bottom Hard Drive Flex Cable - 922-9560 076-1412

If you have been doing DIY, should not be tough for you.
I have done it a couple of times. So far so good.
