How to really trace out? Isnt ddos is by a hacker controlling multiple device to keep connecting to server?
Doesn't need to take control of multiple devices. Can even be a syndicate of many computer users 'attacking' the server at the same time.

DDoS is simply flooding the server with many user requests to the point that the server cannot service the incoming requests fast enough. All resources are used up, and the server either slows down due to hardware limitations or crashes pre-maturely to protect data integrity. Main aim of DDoS attacks is to send so many requests that the server would need to take weeks/months/years to finish serving all requests or take out the server by crashing it.

There is no way to trace the attack unless u can determine the source of attack. Even then, what can you do? The attacker will just assume another IP address and continue his intention. The current and only way out is to build a firewall that has a strong algorithm to sieve out potentially high volume traffic coming from a single or a group of sources. Requires pattern recognition, so how good a server performs depends on how secure the server provider can be.

fYI, its not their job to protect you from DDOS attacks, their job is to provide you hosting service for your servers.

like that if all their customers get ddos they must handle for them?. you kena attack is you suay, you can't even expect them to protect you from it.

unless their service includesDDOS protection. if not then its not their job.

try asking them if they are able to provide extra service for ddos protection?

if not you might want want to get third party ddos protection service like blackLotus

don't bother with reports to police, there is no point.

just ask the server admin to redirect such traffic?
why is the server even taking in the traffic :s22:

it's the server admin job to configure the server to redirect away such unwanted traffic

lol... do you even know what you are trying to say? redirect DDos traffic?

how... please teach me? I only know you can only null the IP as a last resort. :s8:

I thought its the DC staff that do the job unless you co-lease from them...

Usually DDoS attacks have objectives. These objectives can be political (bring down a government), financial (sabo another company), social (activist campaigning), or just personal (grudges).

could b even a fresh hacker trying to horn his skill. Anyway, if ur provider does not protect against DDOS which most hardware firewall does. You might want to switch to a decent service provider.
