Hi all,

title says all.

i would like to sell on carousell but not sure if its the right move as my laptop tends to overheat fast and sometimes it leads to the display freezing.

TIA

What is your OS? If Windows 8 still got people want if you update to Windows 10. Sitex Show 2017 is coming and you can trade in to get voucher to buy your new Laptop at the show. Just need to remove your data from the laptop to portable SSD or HDD. Then check that you did not miss out any data, then restore the notebook to factory default since day 1 it should be ok. Then patch up everything like drivers and then update to Windows 10. Price about $150 to $500 depending on the condition of the laptop and os etc.

currently at win10 pro. i7 2nd gen quad core, 8gb ram, 750gb hdd

but with overheating problem and battery life being low, wont the trade in price drop alot?

i heard that for trade in for these kind of IT fairs, we need to fill a form before the event?

Yup that's right need to fill in the form. But for overheating, I dun think it's easy to sell at high price though.

Just full up the form. Yes the price will be low as your laptop os 2nd generation quad core and battery life low. My is 4th generation quad core 17" LCD and GTX 770M Graphic and 8Gb RAM,no problem at all. I got $500 for it. For a bit of overheat, it is not a problem. Just clean up the fans and will be ok. Just try your luck.

Must dare to bargain and know the price of notebook well. I usually say other store selling it at $$$ can you match their price? Then they will press calculator then say ok.

I would said dun bother much with trade in over. Since u have been quote $30. My guess is that even u go there, u will still be $30 or slightly more.

But they exchange u the voucher on the spot so I can use the voucher to buy new tech over there.

Nowadays, I would said that if you know what I want for the laptop just go down on whichever day u free to do it (as early as possible).

Cos I have checked on the update for 2 shows and some models already so hot that price slash has begin at 1st evening or start of 2nd day.

In the first place, do bring the laptop to laptop service shops, Sim Lim Square has a lot.
That is to troubleshoot your laptop problem.
In this way you could know what wrong.
Maybe nothing serious, as a simple service cost cheap and you could sell for more.

Walk in to those trade-in shops they know you know nothing may bluff you.
They could take in cheap and just service to sell high price.

If possible ask your trustworthy friend to have a look.
Cost is a meal and you gain both technical term and sell better value.

i got a quote for less than $30. so i was like neh
It is because it is really very old notebook with 2nd generation processor. 3 yrs + ago already 4th generation. Your notebook ~ 5 yrs old or older? They usually look at Processor, Gaming Graphic, SSD and HDD.

Based on what i read, i guess at least must change the battery and fan. It may not be that cheap to repair such laptop. If motherboard battery, cost of repair can be ~ $500 la.

Hmmm.. what i meant is just general check &or troubleshoot, not repair, would not cost much.
Maybe a simple maintainence may resolve any issue.
Such as remove resource hungry application, games, etc; &or downgrade OS may resolved.
As we do not know old system use Win 10 Pro.
My 2 i5 laptops are on Win 7 work fine which could be much older as OEM Win 7.
Beside battery is not a necessity as my both battery are gone case, replacement cost $170.

I see. I know the cost. Motherboard can be very expensive. Battery is necessary if you are remote. May be you use a laptop to replace home desktop then not necessary. Honestly for security purpose it is best to update to the latest os and update all the patches if possible. Even browser also must update. All drivers must be patch up when it is available. Security flaw is always a serious concern.
