Hi guys. I can't find a thread for Shenzhen, so pardon me starting one. I may intend to go next month, short 3-4 holidays. As I am traveling alone, I hope to stay at somewhere easy to travel to fro airport and also to places of interest. Where would you guys suggest? Thank you so much.

It's quite a big city so really depends on where and which part your interest is.

I normally stay in the NanShan area since it is close to Sekou ferry terminal where my interest are. FuTian area is convenient for taking trains back to HK and looking for electronic gadgets etc..

Personally I prefer Guangzhou, Zhuhai or the smaller towns such as zhongshan, humen to be more relaxing.

Based on my short trips there Shenzhen has a largely migrant population - most are from outside Guangzhou.

If you're for Cantonese cuisine easier to find in Guangzhou. Guangzhou is an hour away by high speed train. Can easily do a day trip.

What are your interests with Shenzhen? I won't advise staying around the airport, as the area is industrial and less safe. You can consider Futian district near a metro station.

During my time in Shenzhen i stayed in BaoAn and FuTian.

Futian near the Convention Center and JiuBaJie (Pub street), there got many pubs. And is near to HK can travel easily.

Better to use hotels in China so that you do not fall foul of the law there.

you all stay in Hotel or Airbnb?

Haven't tried Airbnb in China as hotel rates are reasonable there.

Hotels must report details and submit photos of all foreigners checking in to Kong an. Not all hotels accept foreigners as they don't have the reporting process. As to how security requirements apply to Airbnb have no idea.

Precisely. AirBnb and its Chinese rivals are not exempt, although it is difficult to see how they can comply with security requirements. They probably are not complying in practice.

I also do not see the need to stay in AirBnB in Chinese cities.
