whether to upgrade or not

Why not 8th gen ? After so many years, 8th gen is the only Intel gen that worths big upgrade. Even a core i5-8600k can put most cpus in shame in term of raw performance. And it can easily o/c to 5GHz too.

9th gen seems to be about i5s being rebranded as i7s and selling at i7 prices. I would rather look at 8th gen rather than wait for 9th gen.

Thanks for the feedback. I think i will do a new setup and just reuse my gpu.

I will go with i7-8700 and 32gb ram.

My question nxt is what could be the suggested parts excluding gpu/os.

I have 2 ssds, 1 hdd, 1 optical drive so probably a mobo and psu that can support it but i am not sure what to take with good value.

As for ram, i read that the standard is 2666hz but the kits on sale are mostly 3000+. Does it mean i need a z370 board and unlock the frequency manually?

why dont u try Z370 F strix board that can support DDR4 3000mhz ram and get I5 8600k for Auto Boost or Auto Overclock?
performance wise i think is almost close to I7 8700k

For PSU u can try Evga or Superflower
