which android phone to get ?

my contract ( singtel Flexi lite [student plan]) is ending in feb 17 , and recently theres many diff kinds of phones from diff brands
i'm currently using HTC Desire S , what would be the best phone for $0 ? or < $300?
best in terms of mobile gaming/web surfing etc

if strictly only recontracting phone from Singtelshop, the best bet would be the LG 4X HD.

4.7 screen with Tegra3 cpu (good for gaming), decent-ish battery at below $200 with contract. The only downside is not much developers support for rooting etc and LG poor updates track record.

If not for the same price the only other options would be the Xperia Ion or the Galaxy Note LTE or One SV

if i'm recontracting in other companies , i'll be taking the cheapest plan for 3G , altho i do know singtel does no have much phones for choice

even from other telcos, the best option for gaming/surfing at under $300 with contract would still be the LG 4X HD because it gives u Galaxy S3, HTC One X level of performance and specs at much lower price. BUT only choose LG if u okay with the following :

1. No updates. LG 4X comes with ICS and hopefully JB update soon. But dont expect to see it go any further looking at LG track record.

2. No rooting and custom firmware. Just a nightmare compared to other brands

thanks for the recommendation will consider it since i don't really mind no root or much updates etc, i just hope the phone will not have problems like overheating/poor QC etc lol
coz my HTC first few months over heated then the motherboard fried
