I'm looking for a 4k uhd bluray player for my home theater that uses an avr and separate speaker setup. My bluray discs are all purchased from US/SG so region free for bluray is not essential, but my wife still has some old DVDs so region free DVD playback is a bonus. Not really interested in music so I don't need sacd support.
What would be a good unit for me to purchase? So far on this thread I've seen the Sony X700 and X800m2, and Pioneer UX500. I also came across the Panasonic DP-UB420 on Amazon.sg at a similar price to the Sont X800m2.
Thanks!
Anyone?
It seems that the only readily available model locally is the x700? It's a last resort choice for me as it supports Dolby Vision and not HDR10+, while my Samsung tv supports HDR10+ and not Dolby Vision.
Been looking at the amazon.sg X800m2 and UB420 but the sellers are not local and are new sellers with no feedback so abit worried to get. Also concerned about DVD region - even if can't get region free, I need one that supports local DVD region.
I'm willing to get the $600-800 models, but I can't find a reliable source![]()
hi
no link is required
i got it at BD Parkway Parade for $29x on Saturday.
i am not if it is that branch promotion or same across BD.
the advertised price in BD was $319
but at Harvey Norman , it was $419.
You’re not using a 4k playerI'll probably suggest to keep with what you have and wait till the true 120p players come out. At 60p... there are real blurs in quick action scenes and sports.
Still running my BDP LX55 on LGC7 Panel, can't really tell much diff between 4k and 1k at the moment.
good choice
i think Sony is clearing x700
maybe to bring in x800 which is an heavier version of x700.
There are far more differences than just weight dude..
I was or still in the same position as u..
There are some who had bought the region/,code free BD/DVD Sony set from Amazon but I still have my reservations in buying a unit from oversea.
The x700 met my 4k and SACd needs while my faithful but dying pioneer universal player can still play back my DVD collection.
Currently I am on the look out for any multi region DVD player below $100.
I had tried Courts Mega store but they only have sony set Which is code locked.

I'm a bit confused... if we should let the job of upscaling the resolution of a blu ray disk that we're playing to the tv itself rather than the blu ray player.. then why do ppl still get 4K blu ray players?
You're obviously not using 4k discs as a source...![]()
The 4K trilogy extended editions of both LOTR and Hobbit are going to be released soon... Amazon taking pre-ordersI think nowadays people just make do with streaming 4k and skip physical media. I've been on the rocks on getting a bluray player for the past 2 years, but the costs of physical discs (esp 4K HDR) puts me off..since there's none I'd really like to have.
I'll make do with the compressed "good enough" Netflix/Amazon Prime streams for now
Maybe i'll get a bluray player when the 4K LOTR is released![]()
