i'm not so into cpu technical details, usually into a better speed and processing power.. felt tt my new set up is 'abit weaker' and slower when i do movie encoding etc and browse with multiple tabs on chrome

Hyper threading at work. While both have 4 cores, the i7 has 8 threads as compared to 4 on the i5. Normal day to day usage probbaly no diff but since youre doing video encoding and all thats why you are feeling the diff probably

I have never come across an i7-3600k before. Either u meant i7-2600k (Sandy-Bridge) or i7-3770k (Ivy-Bridge).

Either way, just add more system RAM and ur 'slowness' might just go away, no need to change CPU or motherboard.

Movie encoding is where the i7 excels better than the i5 due to HT. The rest like web browsing, I'd be looking at your OS drive

well depends on your task that u wanna do and i still think its ok, maybe undervolt it so it wouldn't consume a lot of power.

The i7 any day. Since you got do video encoding, stay i7. The hyper threads are very useful for your scenario.
