Which gaming laptop to get ?

Hello forum ,

Thinking of getting a gaming laptop and i need some advice.

Currently , i have been told to get the aftershock x15 as it is not too bulky nor too small and the specs are good. Going over to the Funan IT MALL Showroom to have a look sometime this week. However , id like to explore other options before deciding on a laptop.

I have googled on the Origin laptops and was wondering if they have an outlet/showroom in Singapore ? (i couldnt find anything)
Also , is Aftershock still the preferred choice when it comes to gaming laptops or are there other good brands/models ?

i agree best to comedown aftershock shop and try yourself on all gaming notebooks than just looking on specs and reviews..

my advice wait for haswell notebooks coming out in 1-2months

Origin uses the same chassis as Aftershock, both source their barebones from the same ODM, the only difference being the custom design options for the lid of the notebook offered by the companies. Origin doesn't have a showroom here not that it matters since what you see on aftershock notebooks is same chassis as origin (only different logo and lid design)

I would say Aftershock is the preferred choice for those who want to customise the components of their notebook cos really, thats the one thing you wont find on other brands. The customer service is also another huge plus point.

Also agree to wait for Haswell, or more precisely, wait for the haswell-generation Clevo machines to arrive in Aftershock.

hahah which reminds me I still have an mSATA SSD upgrade I'm considering to get from them (their service does include upgrades too so another benefit). Currently still pondering whether or not I should go for the mSATA as an OS drive or use for caching instead (since not all my programs are installed on the OS drive)

Go down and take a look then. If you can wait, then hang in there. For me, I can't wait, so I took the plunge about 3 weeks back and got their X17. Enjoying it now.

Richlands Laptops such as MSI GX60 also can take a look also. Price tag cheaper for more or less same performance compared to its intel counterparts

I went over to the showroom just now though they didnt have GW2 installed so i couldn't really test out how powerful their machines would be. My current laptop ( Acer 4820TG i7 ) bought 2 years ago lags in WvW with alot of players at very low settings. Im looking for specs that can run GW2 in high or even max settings with zero or little lag.

Im thinking of getting the X15 (not too big/small) and yeah i dont mind waiting ~2 months for the new processor before i get it.

Just a question though , my brother bought his alienware laptop a year ago. When the new processors come , is it possible to upgrade ?

For Alienware, likely not I believe.

Haswell uses a new socket, which means the mobo will need to change as well. If mobo changes, firstly, its gonna cost you a lot to get a mobo and CPU. Secondly, if there is a difference in the layout of the mobo, which they usually do, it may not fit the current chassis, if I am not mistaken.

to add on, for certain alienware models that uses a mxm interface for their GPU, you can actually upgrade the GPU, provided u can get your hands on one and it actually fits the the laptop physical constrains, thermal ceilings etc...or thats what i heard~

Thats awesome , really happy to hear it Cant wait to get mine. Just gotta wait till the new processors are integrated into the Aftershock laptops.

Yes. For Dell Alienware and MSI GT/GX models, graphics card are upgradable.
