Get enterprise drive, cooler and quieter than Black with 5-yr warranty while on par with performance. No horse run

WD RE 1TB - $150 :s13:
WD SE 1TB - $115
WD SE 2TB - $185
WD SE 3TB - $260
WD SE 4TB - $350

WD Green is actually not recommeded for its high uplorry rate. Go for Blue at least, if got more $$, get a Black.

There is no single brand that won't fail.
So just depends on you luck.

For myself, I will avoid WD Green as much as possible.
Avoid Samsung also.
I only trust Seagate Barracuda and Hitachi.

People crap on the greens all the time, but just switch off the intellipark feature and it works the same as any other drive. Can use wdidle3.exe tool.

If just for video file non critical archival storage, why would you spend 2x the cost on blacks that also generate more heat?

Sure some models are prone to death, but as long as you keep the drives cool (well ventilated or with active airflow) greens work really well. I have 4 x 2TB greens in my DIY NAS, have a few 3/4GB models (probably owned over 30 green drives over the past half a decade) and haven't noticed higher failure rates than other models.

for me i would avoid seagate, my current sea gate Ext HDD just suddenly fail on me, right after 2 years. Had a really bad experience.

For me WD Green still ok if its for external back up storage, the torrent movie files will store directly into the PC HDD right, so just buy a WD Green HDD to back up all thise files will do. Its just a simple Copy and Paste function nia.

For me I will only buy Samsung, Western Digital or Hitachi.

1) Hitachi for reliability as they have proven to be the top for durability. A lot of articles say that Hitachi tops in the lowest failure rates.

2) Samsung for performance. Bought the F3 Spinpoint and that has been my main OS drive for 5 years without any problems.

3) Western Digital for both performance and variety. Got greens/blues/black/red/purple and brown. So many to choose.

Samsung is Seagate now

HDD industry is wholly a duopoly between Seagate and WD

Hitachi's 3.5" HDD division has also been sold to Toshiba, can also consider Toshiba.

The weird thing is that a desktop Toshiba drive I bought last year was labelled as made by HGST :s22:

Anyone checked the labels recently?
