With the recent issues with Samsung 980pro and 990 pro, which M.2 SSD should we target?

Was looking to buy a 2 gig and saw the WD SN850x cheap on Amazon (not amazon.com.sg). Not sure why if always on sale but last year i also got the WD SN850 cheap from amazon, so far no issues...

The SN850X is an upgrade over the SN850 esp. in terms of much better power efficiency. The original MSRP is too pricey for the current market hence the sale price.

I bought the SN850X 2TB during BF, chose it over the Samsung 980 Pro. Tested the full 2TB and cloned my existing SDD without issue.

Which motherboard are you using?
Actually it boil down to how much you are willing to pay.
Cuz drive like Samsung 980 Pro or 990 Pro you won't notice a significant increase in performance.
But during file transfer or task like video editing 990pro will be faster.
However these drives recommend after purchase have to use Samsung Magician to update the firmware.
As there's report that Samsung 980 Pro and 990 Pro have issues.

Can consider Seagate 520/530 series.

Not the first time Samsung on the news. Remember the 840 EVO charge loss incident?

Just get a midrange WD and forget about it. You don't really need 3000MB/s of sustained writes all the time.

Regardless of whatever brand if want to play safe, just buy locally especially from shop.
If any issue just bring back to shop do 1 to 1 exchange.
Amazon can do 1 to 1 exchange but it's very troublesome.

You need to submit a request send back and wait for the replacement set.
While for shop most brands SSD they should have stock so can do
immediate 1 to 1 exchange.

Wah now all got problem ah? Siao liao liddat what brand can buy?
Kioxia, crucial.

However, kioxia ssd have lower tbw warranty then other brands, the smart health percentage will drop faster. Got people tested beyond 0% still will work fine but no more warranty when reach 0%.

please read content properly ya... it's performance issues not durability issues. it can be due to Win OS and scheduler issues with Gen 12th or Gen 13th or even AMD processors. so it's still safe to get m.2s. the 980 samsung issue is about health not about performance. so dont jump the gun. but I guess is good that it stop people from spending hahhha.
