Have you ever been to their preview session? I guessed you did right? How does it feels after walking out of it?

My first feeling was it's too commercialized. They seems to be after sales KPI only. It's the longest course with the most expensive price tag. Sometimes I really wonder if it's worth pursing it just for the brandsake...

Ya, that's what I feel too : ( sales oriented. They even have "early bird discount" and different tiers of discount hmm...which make me feel strange. But one good thing I like is that they have direct links and office here in SG, and foreign students from other centers, including europe would come to SG for exchange. They are sponsoring 5D accommodation for 2 overseas electives (workshops) to encourage exchange. And the course seems to be quite finance oriented, which is something I prefer.

Regarding brand, I also not sure, I spoke to my director, my boss only knows about the top 20 universities eg Wharton and the 3 local uni MBA in SG, I also not sure is it really credible among employers in SG.

Regarding SMU, I also not sure whether it's credible, their ranking is not out yet.

And I got a feeling NUS MBA is getting harder to get in due to recent rankings and expect applicants with very good GMAT score and focus less in working experience. I know of very young 'FT' with only 1-2 yrs working experience but v high GMAT score getting into NUS MBA and they reject locals with 5-6 yrs of supervisory exp, good degree but low GMAT. Sad to know this.

Yup. Its like buying a car. You can "customize" your price by tailoring to their different types of "value meals"

The 5D accommodation is pretty much a "羊毛出在上" gimmick isn't it? :s13: Anyway you are right it's good that they deal direct with the students rather than going through an agent

No doubt about that. However it is also imperative that they should know if they want quality employees only from those top branded schools that they heard of; they must be willing to pay for it. Are they paying you that well? :D I guess not; else you wouldn't want to embark on an MBA right? I mean; we gotta be realistic isn't it? Who doesn't want to drive a 25K brand new BMW or owns a 100K freehold condo in District 9 if there ever is such an opportunity??

I am just an Average Joe. And I have no idea how ivy league schools work or what is the typical composition of their executive classes... Using GMAT is a good gauge but that may also mean you are compromising or diluting the quality of your brood with smart students that may not have any rich experiences to talk about. Possibly you may be interacting with scholars who are book smart but whom are used to the systems of bureaucracies & rigidities vs innovative & the ability to improvise solutions within tight constraints. And with the growing trend of our local schools admitting more FTs for the wrong reasons; I am not really drawn to them; whatever their rankings maybe...

From what I understand, Insead does not offer part-time MBA in singapore, neither do GSB .... I think it's for really rich ppl who can quit their full time job or those who can get a full- time study scholarship from the company and still get monthly pay (hard to get).

I am looking for part-time studies, I still need my day time job to feed my family. I really envy those who can casually quit working and study full time MBA in SG/overseas and still can make ends meet.

If I am HR and can choose between a full-time and part-time MBA student with same grades and school, actually I would prefer part-time students, it shows alot about the person when one can manage part-time MBA, family and a day time managerial/supervisory job at the same time (and reservist/RT somemore). Not sure if the other employers in local industry will think the same way as I do. Hope so.

Usually who will take up MBA from local uni?

Firstly, it's so expensive for local who are into their first 5 yrs of working life as they are trying to repay their degree loan, establish young family and support their parent.

Secondly, I hear there are lots of Asia classmates who just grad from universities or with little working exp. It's kind of defeat the purpose of networking with classmates from management of various companies.

Hi, I'm also considering the options of American EMBA here in SG.
I think the local Uni's EMBA are too expensive
I'm going to Rutgers' info session tomorrow, I'll share any info that I got.

Not entirely.

It means it has a good mix of fresh as well as seasoned people. But ALL with a good GMAT Score.

I agree with Antz621 that there are a lot of foreign students in our local universities full-time MBA programme.

There is one thing I do not like the local uni is that my feeling tell me the local uni MBA programmes tend to accept quite alot overseas student from (you know especially that 2 particular countries)

look at the NUS MBA club photo and I get that feeling too...

Hi Guys,

I will be attending the Strathclyde MBA Information Session on Mon,28 Nov at 7pm,any locals on this forum going to be there as well? I read through the entire 38 pages of this forum and you guys are really good at maintaining it for close to 3 years! Been trying to choose between Lancaster,Manchester and Strathclyde, but the first 2 are probably too expensive for myself (I'm paying out of my own pocket..). Any comments about my choice?

Btw,I will also be attending the QS World MBA Tour @ Swissotel,Raffles City Convention Centre on Sun,20 Nov from 1-5pm,in which lots of top MBA business schools (including my 3 choices) will be there. Hope to see some of you there!

Cheers,
Elaine

Can't imagine potential MBA students that don't understand Business at all.
CMI.

You've done a startup. It sells Frozen Food. Do you sell only in Singapore or try to open the market in other countries ? Do you, at the end of PnL day, care whether it comes from Singapore Consumers or oversea consumers market ?

The MBA program, is after all just a product, priced slight higher so people need debt. When that happens, Banks can come in with packages and open a new market. Lesser risk, since students hardly default, unlike than Housing loans.

The demand for this is strong, esp from overseas than locals. How to increase profits for a non-public listed organization ?
