What happen if as much as 1 wants to get into local U or Insead MBA but no matter how hard they studied, they couldn't achieve the marks required. Shall they just give up on MBA and keep the money in the bank?

Try harder, keep trying until you succeed. Tell yourself "no vacations till I succeed". Otherwise, just give up and put money in fixed deposit better. :(

Is it wise to go for MBA (assume I am able to get in) just to learn what they teach?

Course fee about $40k (cheapest i can find), not sure what is the ROI of investing in MBA.

Course fees for M.sc in local uni is lesser, thus im thinking which is more worth it. Im currently doing technical role in my job.

Is it important to go for an MBA in a reputable uni?

Does it help to give more knowledge on business management in sg (for a start)?

I saw the curriculum of MBA and it seems like it was topic (like accounting, marketing, supply chain, finance, people mgmt, etc) which i wanted to know.

Used to run my own business previously, but seems like dun need an MBA to run small business. Just need the knowledge from it.

At that time i have little knowledge on those topics though i find them very important. I read a few books here n there but not much help.

I wanted to go for a Diploma in BA, but ppl ask me go for MBA instead. I cant enjoy subsidy for diploma anyway.

Some advice given to me were "MBA is just go there mingle and network."

Some told me to wait for company sponsor, but im currently working for people as a small fry. No one in right mind will sponsor me.

Any advise for me?

This is my 2cents.

Going for an MBA is mainly for the network i.e. getting to know people in your class who are similarly highly capable, smart like yourself. It is not to learn something extraordinary which you cannot learn by yourself. And an MBA is like a general degree in business in terms of technical subjects. Its nothing difficult if you put in time. There is some that you can use in real life but very little. Like 20% of what you studied. The value of an MBA is to leverage on the network you cultivate which also means start socializing. Don't be a nerd and study only coz it will bring not much value.

But you decide you want to take an MBA, for god's sake, go for broke and get the top tier ones like Ivy League or INSEAD. Its expensive as heck. Beg, borrow, steal. Those would get you the most ROI and possibly, just possibly no guarantee, an openning into one of those bulge bracket investment banks. Forget about the local ones. Those are a dime a dozen.

But of you decide you want to remain in a technical field forget about an MBA. It does not add alot of value. Go for masters instead.

And finally managing a business can't be taught. Its like you can't teach others how to play football like Cristiano Ronaldo. What MBA gives you are the fundamentals, the building blocks, the basics. The rest is up to you, your talent and your experience.

Just got pre-selected for the INSEAD EMBA. Some tests they ask to take coz I never submit GMAT.

I graduated from ESSEC. It is a pretty good school with good standing as well. Worth considering!

Got 1 from Uni of Hull. No more offering the course here though. Still doing technical work, little use.

Another question - will they accept applicants without a job now? Because last I checked they give preferences to potential candidates with jobs

I barely prepared for the tests.

Tests are like those Math tests, problem sums, passage. I went online to Google for samples and do them.

They conduct the test on Zoom.

Harder ones is the Panel Interview and case studies.

I think the INSEAD online tests easier than GMAT. At least I took it and compared to GMAT tests i found online n thru books. Same same but different.

I Google for tips. I followed the tips closely.. For example instead of working out an equation, use the few mcq answers to work backwards. It is faster.
