Hi folks,

Lately going to build a rig for my friend, this build require OS. The question here is to purchase windows 7 or 10? Currently windows 7 is having free upgrade to 10 and since 7 is slightly cheaper with the opportunity to revert to 7 should user dislike the 10.

Not been using 10 so not very sure about going to 10.

Just get Windows 7 and upgrade to 10 for friend. I was pretty skeptical about Windows 10 and its changes from 8.1 but i am impressed after upgrading a few weeks back. The change in usability is minimal compares to 8.1. No more annoying start screen. There are several registry tweaks you can make to improve usability further like removing lock screen, etc...

After upgrading to Windows 10, keep the Windows.old folder intact, let you friend experience Windows 10 and review after a period. If he really don't like then just downgrade back to Windows 7. But if he already acclimatised well then you can ask him to remove the Windows 7 installation on Disk Cleanup.

My route as recommended by the helpful folks here.

g2a.com -> Win 7 -> free upgrade to Win 10.. total damage < $40 SGD.
Not sure if it's still OOS now.

Will win 8.1 standard N works in sg? I just need normal os , just surf web n youtube.

Sent from Asus ME173X using GAGT

That's just without media player

For those who have microsoft account at work, there is a high chance your company bought a windows 8.1 license for you.

Just go online outlook, click on gear icon on top right. Click office 365 settings. Then download windows 8.1 pro installer

I'm just gonna state the fact that if your Windows 7 can activate (this is up to you to think of what it means) it will also activate in Windows 10 and it appears this is permanent. Future reinstalls will work without any CD key because your computer is tagged in the system

Sorry, didn't buy from them before, but review look OK.

Anyway for Qoo10, make sure you install, use the key to activate successfully and confirm that it's genuine using IE over here first:

[For Win 7 and below] https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/

before you click on "confirm delivery" to release the money to them.

Else, report to Qoo10 to ask for refund and file a report to microsoft.

UPDATE:
Purchased Win 7 PRO 64-Bit successfully upgraded to Win 10. Note: Initially sent the Technet/MSDN license key, resend OEM key after some enquiry. Make sure to check after the installation as Technet/MSDN is considered as Enterprise License which are not entitle for free Win 10 upgrade.
User is happy with Win 10:D

By the way, purchased Samsung 850 EVO 256GB from Lazada at $129. Fast delivery.

Last note, thanks for all the input and tips.

I also purchased Win 7 Pro 64-bit and upgraded to Win 10 Pro.
MGADiag said the Win 7 key is a retail version instead of OEM version
(Product ID shows 222, not OEM).
