Which Pcie lane to use?

the first (top most) pcie slot of my rig started to become loose, causing my single gpu to intermittently loose contact and system to crash. My GPU is my only pcie device.

Question: Can I use the other pcie lanes while still maintaining 2.0 x16 speed? and which slot should I use?

The internet and my mobo manual dont mention anything on using other pcie slots, they only say to use the first slot and sli instructions
