Just chose my tiles recently at lian seng hin w my id. We were quite decisive and able to get what we wanted at the first shop quite quickly so we didn't visit the other shops. My friend mentioned hafary is better in terms of customer support, tile quality and alignment. Any expert can advise?

If ur ID can only refer to Hafary, he is no experience. Hafary is expensive. My reno contractor (i dun use id) brought me to one of thr unimpressive shops along defu ... is reasonable. No fancy, just avg and abve avg tiles.

Lousy tiles the design can get faded sooner after you wash many times. Better quality tiles the design more lasting.

Tile laying skill also important. Is another factor.

Hafary has best selection IMO. They are the most established liao. Gallery is huge for people to view.

In terms of alignment actually italian tiles are the worst! Lol

thats why italian tile brands have a category - “rectified”. Meaning they took an extra step to size each tile “more consistently”

so if you are particular about alignment either avoid italian or avoid mixing and matching brands for the same room.

You mean the design crooked?

IDs like hafary because of the better commission. My contractor actually “kickback” a portion of the comms to me depending on the tiles i pick and the scope of work i do in order to keep his quotation competitive/reasonable.

Each tile size will differ abit by like 0.5-1mm so your tiler will have hard time to align every tile swee swee.

even for “rectified” tiles, each brand has their own allowance/threshold so in the end hard to align if mixing different brands.

this applies specifically to italian tiles. Its their philosophy/culture that there can be beauty in imperfections (like Japanese wabi sabi)

there is one shop which specialises in italian tiles (90% of their catalogue is italian) and their SA quite transparent about this aspect. Other shops may not be.

My suggestion is to use marble gum instead of grout.

I used epoxy grout , still not good.

While working at lighting shop, most ID will personally request we cover them 10% comm before they bring client for selection. So I believed it's the same practice for tiles shops.

Maybe some shop dun cover so they stick to their regular seller.
Walao the markup is high. Cuz if walk in they charge higher than if got ID. So with ID moi know they give discount while also giving the ID commission. Really good biz to chop ppl.

Had used marble gum for my half body porcelain tile aka homogeneous tiles which can be polished. It feels good with the grout less and seamless effect initially but after less than 3 years, it started to get dirty contrary to the sales pitch and now after just over 5 years, some part of the marble gum started to crack and lift off.
I will not touch marble gum again.

I order my own tiles and the shop gave me a 15% discount.
