唐人 should be the right term. My great great grandfather already used this term to separate himself from CCP ruled China. He said to avoid trouble from the British government.

Usually Teochew stock ppl will use Deng Nang.

The term Huaren (華人) for a Chinese person is an abbreviation of Huaxia with ren (人, person).

華夏人 is technically the official words. Sounds very high ses and satki!

唐人 you associate with Tang Dynasty which is Chinese. Edmw hates China always quoting 5000 years of culture. You want to associate with them?
