Today a new fibre broadband player joined in the wars of the fibre broadband plans. As a launch promotion, WhizComms will be offering free 1Gbps home fibre broadband to 1,000 customers from 1 November 2016 with no strings attached for 3 months.

Customers can enjoy three months’ free WhizComms Broadband as long as they meet the following criteria:
Be a Singapore citizen/PR
Have a fibre-ready home
Is ready for their first fibre line at home OR has an existing home broadband contract that is due for renewal within 3 months’ time

The price plan is also pretty attractive. The 1Gbps price plans from as low as $32/month for a 24 months plan, or $36/month for a 12 months plan, both of which include an optical network router plus delivery and installation at the customer’s home.

Do take note that the package does not comes with a wireless router. They also do not support Fixed voice line service. If you require the fixed voice line, you will have to port it back to Singtel which incur a monthly cost.

Right now they target new user only.. i think not a very smart move..

If people willing to pay for new line setup and trial. They should do it..

This is good because it has go below $39 and it is time for M1 to knockdown their price to $29/mth for 1Gbps la.

Then what's the after effect ?

Those on 300Mbps will be auto upgrade to 1Gbps ?

1Gbps -> 2Gbps ?

So on and so forth ?

Scary effect leh.

M1 can stop selling 300Mbps and offer 1Gbps at $29/mth. Existing 300Mbps users can comtinue their existing plan till 21 mths then upgrade from 300Mbps to 1Gbps plan. 1Gbps user can continue till recontract. No impact on 2Gbps at all.

Let's see how will M1 respond to this new player. Hope they can come out with something before Sitex starts later this month. If 1Gbps wld drop to $29, this will make the deal more sweet. Factoring they will throw in the 1G BBOM and the free home phone line.

So this whizcomm definitely using ST as their OpCo? Wouldn't this affect ST's own? Unless they want both shares of the pie.

So the network peformance sld be same/quite similar to ST ? Unless they wil add on more transit providers.

I would believe the new player would be doing heavy traffic shaping or high content compression. Getting 1gbps from SingTel the costs is already very scary. Else soon they will be like superinternet, quiet till no news.

The Managing Director of WhizComms is also the Managing Director of Phoenix Comms, the company that sells prepaid IDD cards. He's an ex Singtel guy. The office address for WhizComms is also the address for Phoenix Comms.

WhizComms = Phoenix Comms
