oops, moi deleted already, hahaha, think the post is till there with the name deleted, oops

If you don't wanna say, don't bother advising people.
It gets confusing for others. They may end up getting the wrong policy.
Like I mentioned before, please be specific.

He already mentioned his policy might not be available anymore.

You do understand the few words, currently available, with 5% returns, specific policy?

Actually, moi was planning to start a thread Wholelife vs BTIR, so can u change the thread title since it is under my id?

otherwise, I'll stop posting.

Even if it is no longer available, it is still useful to know so we can check with NTUC what is the equivalent now, hahaha

So since there's a lot of debate in here about whether BTIR really beats a whole-life policy, I took a starting stab at the math over here in another thread.

Anyway, one important starting point is the costs: "$100 a month vs $50 a month" isn't even remotely close to the real relative costs. AXA Direct Purchase is quoting me, for a 24-year-old non-smoker who wants the CI rider:
  • $100k of term-to-65 coverage: about $275 a year;
  • $100k of premium-to-70 whole-life coverage: about $2180 a year.

That's not a typo: the term policy is nearly 90% cheaper than the whole-life policy.

Incidentally, I think the Direct-Purchase requirements were a great idea, and I want to give a round of applause to AXA for putting their quoting engine online. More companies should do this.

Hi Shiny

Seriously, I have read up on term insurance but not in great details cos my brains cannot process too much words...quick question.. terms insurance means payable upon death only is it?

By the way, what is BTIR? Tks

Depending on what you buy, it pays out when death, TPD or CI occurs.
Buy term invest the rest. :)

hahaha, good try, moi dun take -ve challenges, hahaha, who cares, so long moi making money now, moi dun bother with what others think, hahaha, when moi not happy or sense no sincerity in the asking, moi will choose not to reply, hahaha

im not interested to know the name of your policy anyway. :s13:

i stick with my principles. if the policy can yield good returns in the past, in other words the money must have been invested during an era of a strong bull market. past performance are not indicative of future returns. as to whether the insurance company can continue to deliver good returns in future is another question. however, if you really want to pick an insurance company, then yes go for NTUC or Tokio Marine.

lastly, dont be such an ego. if you like to share, post it for the benefits of everyone. dont try to go around the bush or dont mention it at all.

So there is no more such good policy?
Any comparable ones?

Otherwise BTIR is taking the cake.

Question on BTIR:

If chiu had invested in STI ETF in Feb 1996 where STI was at 2500, 20 years later today, how much would your investments be worth?

Anybody did that and care to share?

dont try to mislead everyone by selectively choosing a lousy period.

WARNING: Long data. Look at the end of this table :s13::s13::s13:

1) Those are returns exclusive of dividends
2) Those are average and rolling 1, 5 and 10-year returns assuming a lump sum investment
3) Those returns can be improved tremendously if you add during major market corrections

dont try to mislead everyone by selectively choosing a lousy period.

Would actually like to know if choosing the worst period would drastically pull STI's returns down using a DCA method.

WARNING: Long data. Look at the end of this table :s13::s13::s13:

1) Those are returns exclusive of dividends
2) Those are average and rolling 1, 5 and 10-year returns assuming a lump sum investment
3) Those returns can be improved tremendously if you add during major market corrections (unquote)

hahaha, moi using the same principles u applied to Wholelife where u said past history is no....., u said a wholelife policy in fantastic bull run cannot be used, blah blah blah, hahaha, now u "tweet" your data to 1987 bottom, hahaha

BTIR also based on assumptions, if those assumptions fail, dun expect your investments to perform better than wholelife lor, hahaha

And people had been using past historical data picking best periods to project average returns of STI, so we have to be objective about it, look at how your investments will perform if u entered the wrong periods, and mind u no market timing, just invest your yearly "saved premiums"

U are now talking about market timing, dun confuse insurance (BTIR) with your own investments.

Adam Khoo also used to preach alot about investing in STI ETF for long term, but in the past few years after he learnt about TA and that he could make less or lose if he continues his old approach, now looks at timing STI, to exit before the crash and to re-enter after uptrend is confirmed, he makes even more that way.

So pls when u are investing in the market, STI ETF, dun just hold without doing anything, be smart, a major crash would wipe u out, hahaha

dont make yourself look like an idiot.

look at the data carefully.

data starts from 1987. it doesnt mean you start investing from 1987. :s13::s13::s13:

they are average returns of a 1-year, 5-year or 10-year rolling returns from 1987. no particular start of time.

i just did this exercise. the difference is not much if you look at the longer term horizon.

DCA start period = Jul 1990 (Market peak)
Return pa = 2.59% (without dividends)

DCA start period = Feb 1996 (Market peak)
Return pa = 2.79% (without dividends)

DCA start period = Aug 1998 (Market bottom)
Return pa = 2.88% (without dividends)

I did that and posted in this forum before. The median return for a 10 year window is around 3.4+% (exclude div) iirc. There are some windows where u make a lost (again, exclude div), but such windows are very infrequent.

Since the 2 poster has posted the results above and STI has traditionally give out dividends in the 2-3% range, thus can one assume from the data that one can get 5% p.a. return even if one starts from the worst period?

ok moi decided to use close to life data for comparison, also for my own benefit:

1. NTUC Living Policy bought in April 1996, mthly premium $131.50. Surrender value $43390, sum assured from 50k now auto increased to 77k

2. If chiu invest the premium into STI ETF, for simplicity, $132 per mth. Using mthly closing data from STI converted to equivalent price (STI/1000), calculate mthly equivalent units purchased (132/price), add up all units from April 1996 to Aug 2015, then multiply by STI price Aug 2015 = $41116

Note: Dividends and cost of mthly purchase not factored in. Also no amts assigned for payment of Term premiums.

hahaha, see for yourself, real closed to life data comparison, my aunty made the right choice, hahaha
