Collectively, 40% held a different view from 60% five years ago, and at some point in time, 5% repented, and realised that they had been lied to, and the needle shifted in GE2025. It's 35% now.
I have written an essay here....housing, COL and GST were stupid issues to even raise in the GE, and the oppies went to raise those.
Instead of raising issues which Singaporeans were concerned about and which the government could do something about to reverse, they raised issues which they knew was not within the government's ability to tweak without causing adverse consequences.
Most Singaporeans knew that even if Harpreet Singh became the PM, he could not do anything about these, and very likely he would do the same things which PAP did, perhaps offering a *lite* version of it.
As Singaporeans today are better educated, they are also more well informed. They did not need LW to come and tell them that hard times lie ahead with the global economy turning protectionist. In a recent survey, it was found that 68% of Singaporeans were worried about Trump's tariffs. TCB and LT said the PAP was fearmongering and barking like a dog! That's their views shared by 35%
When TCB and LT called it fearmongering and dog barks, we know what happened to LMW, HP and LT. Singaporeans showed them the door, not the way to Parliament but out of the counting stations....go home ba!
Yet, in the post mortem for the defeat, some ibs are here kidding themselves that oh! most voters don't follow the news! they don't know what is going on around the world! they voted out of habit!
Clearly, the oppies underestimated the intelligence of the voters...at least 65.57% of them. I say at least 65.57% because the other 34.43% also knew that they were kidding the electorate by raising those issues, just to stir emotions but it did not work.
