1. One of my threads was merged into this thread.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...ics-26-july-11-august-2024-mediacorp.7048911/

2. There's a notification about one of my posts being deleted. Only vague and generic reason was provided, and I don't even know which post was that since it was deleted.

3. Managed to find out the affected post manually, so I avoided posting about that sub-topic.

4. Posted other sub-topics, but just realised that I'm now blocked from posting in that thread. What was the reason? I had avoided posting about the entire "offending" sub-topic since no clear reason was provided, but yet penalised for something else that remains unexplained.

5. Most of us wants to avoid breaking the rules. But clear and specific reason must be provided in order for us to learn from the mistake. It does not help that the post gets deleted, and user does not have any idea or need to guess which post was the problem.

6. Please unblock me from that thread. I was never informed about the specific reason to even try to properly avoid such a mistake.

can you explain about this post?

what proof do you have for this?

The Olympic Truce is a tradition originating from ancient Greece that dates back to 776 BC. A "truce" (from Ancient Greek ἐκεχειρία (ékécheiria) 'laying down of arms') was announced before and during the Olympic Games to ensure the host city state (Elis) was not attacked and athletes and spectators could travel safely to the Games and peacefully return to their respective countries.

in this forum, the games become a proxy war for you to bypass our ban on geopolitical fighting.

i tell you that you are not the only being banned from thread

Not sure why thread was locked before I get to respond.

Please reply on 5 & 6. Also, I now note the reason (based on mod's latest reply). Please unblock me from that thread now that I learn about the type of mistake committed.

By the way, I was only defending fellow Chinese from racism. I was not aware that mods will interpret in that way. In any case, please always explain your actions so that users can understand and post accordingly aligned with your expectations. In case you are not aware, I was never informed of the reason of getting blocked from that thread until your reply.

We have stickied threads on the top of the front page to state clearly the rules, ignorance of rules is a not an excuse.

Pls do not start geopolitical threads or flame wars in EDMW
**[IMPORTANT] EDMW Must-reads!**

Reply ban is a very light action taken, you can glance through that thread and the standard action is 6 pts or straight 3 days ban

I will give you one last chance
Pls explain your post, again, is there any basis, otherwise we will take the standard action.

As mentioned in my previous post, I was merely defending a fellow Chinese from racism. More specifically, the post was in support of the "tiagong they get tested from 5am to 12mn" comment, which you can identify by searching through my posts.

In addition, my feedback posts also relate to mods having to explain the reason why certain actions were taken. Even when there were explanations, many times they were vague (possibly selection of some generic pre-determined category). Otherwise, users may repeat the same actions without knowing what they had done wrong. I believe moderation should be a learning process in which users can change their behaviour accordingly if only they knew exactly what the mistake committed was, and not intended to be punitive in nature.

if there is a racist post you should report them,

I will give you the chance to report them

and your link claim the following:

Marchand, Peaty, Ledecky, Phelps, n other western swimmers r all blessed with asthma n ADHD which gives them carte blanche to suck on steroid inhalers n pop amphetamine to enhance their performance legally

can you pls provide proof for the following.

we allow people to post all kind of opinion but when you are making such strong, and potentialy defamatory statement,
I hope you can justify it

I'm not the one who posted this on X (formerly known as Twitter). My bad that I should have specified the exact line I'm referring to in the original post. In addition, as the age requirement in the forum is 18, I believe most should be matured enough to know that not everything 100% posted on X is the gospel truth.

In view of this incident, I will be more careful in reading through every single word within the media link I'm about to paste.

Chipping in my 2 cents here. Because the age requirement is 18 and above, we also expect all users (not directed at only you alone) to have certain level of maturity to post sensibly and responsibly, not anyhow shoot their mouths trolling, flaming, and stirring on our forums.

Thank you for your cooperation and have a good day. :)

@Dragon

My previous threads titled "Why am I blocked from posting in this thread?" somehow became a clarification of intent discussion. However, there are some other points which I hope you can address.

Incident 1: Deletion of post

Issue:
1. Vague reason provided. Possibly selection of some generic pre-determined category.
2. No information provided on which was the "offending" post, since it had been deleted. In my case, I was able to find out eventually because another user quoted it. It was actually part of a thread that got merged into that mega thread. Imagine having to rely on memory and figure out which was the missing post.

Incident 2: Blocked from posting in thread

Issue:
1. No notification provided. I only realised when I saw some action buttons missing while scrolling through that thread.
2. No reason provided (until mod replied to my post in this feedback forum).
3. No idea which was the "offending" post (until mod replied to my post in this feedback forum).

Most of us wants to avoid breaking the rules. But clear and specific reason must be provided in order for us to learn from the mistake. It does not help that the user does not have any idea or need to guess which post was the problem and what was the problem.

Yes, we should be aware of the forum rules. However, we are all humans and interpretation of posts can be subjective.

To illustrate, if there are 100 rules, an user upon learning about the action taken may go away thinking that he had broken rule 1 when the mods deemed him to have broken rule 2. He goes on to make other posts trying to be more careful about not breaking rule 1 "again" but ended up breaking rule 2 again. At this point, perhaps the mods may consider him a repeat offender, while he thought that he was doing his part to abide by the rules based on his own interpretation.

Quoting myself:
"In addition, my feedback posts also relate to mods having to explain the reason why certain actions were taken. Even when there were explanations, many times they were vague (possibly selection of some generic pre-determined category). Otherwise, users may repeat the same actions without knowing what they had done wrong. I believe moderation should be a learning process in which users can change their behaviour accordingly if only they knew exactly what the mistake committed was, and not intended to be punitive in nature."

While there may be some blacksheeps among us, a typical user would rather avoid trouble, but he can only do so effectively if he knew the exact reason. Thus, I hope that going forward, the respective mods can communicate the specific details in a timely manner as and when the actions are taken, rather than users having to start threads asking for the "which" and "what".

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Currently, there are some forum software limitations to notifications alerts, not all Moderator actions have a built-in notification and messaging function. For those functions that have notification alerts and messaging available, we try as much as possible to keep users informed of our actions. But of course, as you rightfully pointed out, there will be some stubborn and defiant users who's purpose here is to cause trouble, that never agree with our actions no matter what.

Going forward, we hear you and we will continue to upgrade and tweak the forum software to better keep users informed. However it will not happen overnight as there are processes to discuss and follow on things such as feasibility, design, user experience, testing, etc.

Thank you for your patience and have a good day.

While it is understandable that there can be some system limitations, I hope that the mods in general can recognise this and be more neutral when responding to questions about "which post" and "why/what".
