This thumb drive was originally FAT32 I think. I plug it into my Happauge PVR Rocket to record programs and as per Happauge if the thumb drive is FAT32, the record program is broken up into chunks of 2GB each. To avoid this problem I have to format the thumb drive in NTFS format.

Now I've not been paying attention to the available space on my thumb drive so I don't know when I started having missing disk space. Its a 32GB thumb drive but it shows 22GB is used and 9 GB available. However when I double click the thumb drive is totally empty. Where could the space have gone to and how do I resolve this?

Does anyone know how to format a 32 GB thumb drive on a Mac in NTFS format? I googled but most of the instructions seem to be for hard disks and talk about something called Paragon.

For what its worth I have installed on my Mac the paid version of Tuxtera NTFS and its the latest version if that makes any difference.

Nope, no partitions. Anyway was able to successfully reformat a brand new FAT32 thumbdrive to NTFS with Tuxtera disk manager so will try doing the same with the thumbdrive in question once I've done clearing the videos from it.
