Hawkers really only have a 2 hour window during each mealtime to make money. There's nobody buying outside of mealtimes.
At most can make 4 prata simultaneously, and each batch can take about 5mins to make. That means they can sell maybe 96 prata per mealtime. At $1.20 each kosong, that's $115.20 per mealtime.

You think enough to cover $7k/mth rental? That's why some indian shops will refuse to sell prata during lunchtime when the crowd is heaviest. They prefer to sell other dishes that can be served in 30seconds, like nasi briyani. Increases their sales volumes during the all important lunch crowd timings.

For those who are keen to eat prata or roti canai in JB or Malaysia:

Roti Telur RM2.50
Roti Kosong RM1.50
Kopi or Tea: RM1.50-2.00

Ask the landlord to reduce rent lah. It's the rent that is making the hawkers increase price to survive. Do the landlords die if they earn $1k lesser?

The world out there is survival of the fittest. Only the smart businesses will survive. There is no room for charity.
