I think Samsung lost their focus as can be seem in their last few launches, the phone launch has very minimal increment.

Whereas Huawei, they are very competitive, new entrants to the market uses lower price approach and new innovative features. That’s why they can be seen getting more successful.

It's typical of any business organization to focus on what subsidiary units are making profits and what are not. SAMSUNG and SONY are doing likewise. Handphones were once cash cows but because of competition and other means to make more profits the focus has shifted.

The outlook of a phone has not changed much over the years. It's still a slate type design. Even if foldable design will to be out the profits in phone is still not there.

To survive companies must focus on core businesses which make more profits

Mobile phones are increasingly more important in our daily lives. I guess they don’t know how to innovate any further or not willing to innovate due to complacency alr~

Anyway, Samsung sell parts to iPhone, thus when iPhones sales is good Samsung would benefit

Same goes to 5G. In future iphone would need to pay Huawei for 5G related usage~

Innovation means having to spend lots of $$$ in r&d. There's always a difficult balancing act between that and profitability. Huawei is reaping the rewards from the money they're spending on r&d.

Watch this video and you'll find out why Huawei will one day overtake Samsung. Or is Samsung letting Huawei overtake them?

:s8:

Samsung makes more money by selling the OLED panel to Huawei vs using it in their own handphone. That's quite tipical in manufacturing industry (at lease no after sales service center requirement).
