Usually it’s for urine test to see if there is any infection - they wanna do culture on it

The first spurt of urine is “dirty” so they will ask you to pee a bit out, hold it in, then pee into a bottle for testing.

If on catheter, what I remember is they will clamp the catheter, let the urine accumulate there then use alcohol swab to clean the catheter and then use a syringe and needle to draw out the urine for testing
