Is wide angle camera bad for snapping portrait?

Yes. Wide angles are more ideal for landscapes. While there is no one stopping you to shoot portraits with it, the person is going to look fat due to the distortions in the lens.

$200 can be a little tight la, unless u dun mind going for 2nd hand. Try any of the Canon Ixus series that fit your budget. They more like everyday general purpose cameras.

Is the ixus 155 a good camera?
pro:
24mm wide angle
zoom up to 240mm
3 colours to choose frm
good price ~$180-$200

con:
f3 len, not so good in low light
720p video, not full hd
slow continuous drive
not the latest processor

good or not is depends on the buyer's main requirement.
anyway, i reckon ixus 155 is a good entry cam.
