Well said on the 5th point haha. Singtel has been my only ISP and always been using their router and mesh. After recent issues with gaming and the eligibility of plan renewal/termination next month I decided to look at other ISPs.

I tend to believe you do not need to change ISP to sort out the issues. You need to change to better wireless mesh solutions with your current Singtel 1Gbps plan with Singtel ONR.

Decent option: Asus AImesh, but of course the following is not future proof.
TUF-AX4200 (S$229 from Challenger) + 2 x RT-AX3000P (about S$90 BNIB from Carousell) = about S$409

I am currently paying $55 and re-contract price is $39.90 for 1Gbps ONR plan

Intending to sign up for Starhub 5Gbps ONT at only $29.55 and if this special offer end I will go for M1 2.5Gbps at $39.90. Either plan I am benefitting

Amazon US is selling Asus ROG GT-AX6000 at only $325 including shipping

Is this router suitable for either Starhub 5Gbps ONT and M1 2.5Gbps ONT? Could you recommend the AImesh to go to take full benefits of this router? Or go with 2x RT-AX3000P, $180+$325=$505

I am curious if I ship this router to SG, does Asus provides our local warranty?

1. You can upgrade to Singtel 2Gbps plan at the same S$39.90 per month as 1Gbps recontract. Or maybe S$39.95 per month.

2. ROG GT-AX6000 is about S$360 to S$400 BNIB from Carousell if you can find the sellers. No point buying from overseas. No local warranty if you buy from overseas.

ROG GT-AX6000 is a good main router to go with M1 2.5Gbps plan.

No issues to use it with SH 5Gbps ONT option as well but then you use the 5Gbps plan as 2.5Gbps plan -- but who cares since it is cheaper than M1 2.5Gbps plan.

3. As for the mesh node, it depends on whether you want to use 2.5G wired device with the mesh nodes are okay with 1Gbps only.

If you need 2.5G for wired device with the mesh nodes, then the following combination.
GT-AX6000 + TUF-AX6000 x 2 (China version of TUF-AX6000 is called TX-AX6000 and it is much cheaper than TUF-AX6000).

If you do not need 2.5G for wired device with the mesh nodes, then the following combination is cheaper.
GT-AX6000 + RT-AX3000P x 2

I want to utilize the 5gbps of SH plan. Budget is 600. Would you recommend Asus be88u/be86u. I understand they don't have 6ghz. Is there a better buy with 6g at similar price?

Just go with Starhub EB810v in this case, about S$400 BNIB from Carousell. Its FW update is locked to Starhub but should not be an issue since you are using Starhub.

You can also try to find if there are good sales of Archer BE805 and Amazon eero Max 7 in Carousell. They are generic consumer models and not locked to ISPs, unlike EB810v (locked to Starhub) and HB810 (locked to Singtel).

Asus ZenWiFi BT10 is another option at S$699 listed price but you may want to wait a bit for the price to drop. Now only Asus Singapore eStore has it.

Asus ZenWiFi BQ10 is said to be at about S$746 now from some shops (listed price at S$899) and it is better than Asus ZenWiFi BT10.

Yet the other option is TP-Link Deco BE85 if you can find lobangs.

If you do not need 6GHz, then China version RT-BE88U is one of the best buy now.

I wouldn't buy asus gt ax6000. It's good for 2.5gbps but everyone is moving to 5-10gbps

For that money, top up abit n just get wifi7 to future proof it, retain some value if planning to sell it later

hello xiaofan master, thanks so much for the long time sharing and really help a lot!

I would like to inquire about the following: I have newly subscribed to Singtel's 5gpbs plan and I am planning to use a main router as the network hub. Three secondary routers will be placed in bedrooms as access points. Based on your posts, I think Xiaomi is a cost-effective option. However, if my main router needs to be placed in the HDB's weak current box, its WiFi function may be greatly affected by interference. Would this mean the main router's WiFi function is essentially wasted?

Following your recommendations, I would like to ask if using the Xiaomi BE7000 (with quad 2.5G ports, which is a good match for 2.5G plans) or the Xiaomi BE10000 triband (with dual 10G ports, which may be good for 10G plans) as the main router (depending on my budget at that time), and using the Xiaomi BE5000 as the AP with dual band BE5000 and a single 2.5G port is a feasible plan?

I would also like to ask if there are other ways to implement the main router without WiFi? (Because it needs to be placed in the HDB's weak current box, the WiFi function will be heavily interfered.) If yes, what kind of AP should I use?

Thank you very much for your sharing and help!

1) Yes, your plan will work. Let's call it Option 1.
Singtel ONR 10G LAN port --> Xiaomi BE7000 or Xiaomi BE10000 in router mode (Double NAT) --> Xiaomi BE5000 as mesh nodes in the rooms

Whether the DB box will block the WiFi or not, I can see that many new HDB BTO flat DB box will not block WiFi that much. But it will depend on your situation.

2) Singtel ONR is already a wired router. So there is a simple way to go with the mesh system. Let's call this method Option 2.

Singtel ONR 10G LAN port --> 2.5G switch in DB box --> Xiaomi BE5000 as mesh node in the rooms.
Or more recommended using a 2.5G/10G switch.
Singtel ONR 10G LAN port --> 2.5G/10G switch in DB Box --> Xiaomi BE5000 as mesh node in the rooms. This leaves the option to have 10G LAN ports in the rooms for the future.

3) More about Double NAT if you go with Option 1. It does not affect typical web browsing or media streaming.

4) 2.5G switch options
https://www.servethehome.com/the-ul...gear-hasivo-mokerlink-trendnet-zyxel-tp-link/

One cheap and good option for the 2.5G switch with two 10G RJ45 uplink and quad 2.5G ports
Hasivo S600W-4GT-2XGT-SE. You can buy it from Taobao.
https://www.hasivo.com/productinfo/1097870.html

You can of course buy better branded one like QNAP QSW-2104-2T-A mentioned in the following guide.
https://www.servethehome.com/the-ul...gear-hasivo-mokerlink-trendnet-zyxel-tp-link/

Example connection scheme
Singtel ONR 10G LAN port --> Hasivo switch in DB Box (10G Port 1)
Hasivo 10G Port 2 --> reserved for the future
Hasivo 2.5G port 1 --> Xiaomi BE5000 in living room
Hasivo 2.5G port 2 --> Xiaomi BE5000 in main bedroom
Hasivo 2.5G port 3 --> Xiaomi BE5000 in study room (optional)
Hasivo 2.5G port 4 -->reserved for the future

Yes you can change the language from Chinese to English in the Web UI. No change of FW needed.

During the first time setup, the first few screens may be in Chinese but it is not difficult to guess the meaning.

It is good that Merlin FW will support RT-BE86U and RT-BE88U, but current version is considered as beta.

https://www.snbforums.com/threads/a...ta-is-now-available-for-wifi-7-devices.92210/

RT-BE96U3006.102.13006.102.2-beta1
GT-BE98_PRO3006.102.13006.102.2-beta1
RT-BE86U3006.102.2-beta1
RT-BE88U3006.102.2-beta1

It is also interesting that Merlin only supports GT-BE98 Pro and not GT-BE98. Luckily gnuton version supports it but there seems to be an issue with V2 HW as per github issue.

Neither models can fully utilise your 5Gbps ... as they only have 10Gbps in and 2.5Gbps out ... Neither can the wifi hit as high as advertised ... I think you can wait for upcoming tp link routers .. they have some models that does hit the sweet spot ..

I heard it can be changed to English, btw, I ve decided to take my chances on BE88U $314.14 from lazada after 12% voucher. Kinda sceptical with unknown seller, but let's wait and see

RT-BE88U has two 10G ports, one RJ45 and the other SFP+ port. So it can be used for 5Gbps/10Gbps and fully utilize the 5Gbps/10Gbps bandwidth.
