Hey Folks!

I am planning for an upgrade. As of now i have already gotten a cpu at a good deal and will be re-using some existing parts.

Rig used mainly for moderate gaming, watching movies and work. No plans to oc at the moment.

Budget is within the $700 range.
Hopefully can last me another 5yrs or more

What i'll need:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3600 (On Hand)
Mobo: Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wifi ?
Ram: Gskill or Teamgroup ?
Case: Preferably mid Tower case (NZXT 510) ?
Cooler: CM 212 (On Hand)

What i'll re-use:

Gfx: Gtx 1070
PSU: Evga 750 G2
HDD: nvme 512gb

Any suggestions ?

The Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wifi is a good choice for MB.

G.skill or TeamGroup will do for the RAM. I would suggest 2X8GB of DDR3200 CL16 or DDR3600 CL16.

Yep, those parts will work fine.

I'm using 3600 with the same mobo and teamgroup ram (first choice was g skill but I couldn't find stock for the ones I wanted).

No issues. Note that this board doesn't have usb-c connection for the front port. Only on the i/o at the back. If you need that feature, consider a gigabyte.

The Asus X570 TUF was one of the boards I considered when building my current rig. Well reviewed with good features.

A cheaper and popular alternative is the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX.

Just wondering about the potential for OC & longevity.

If TS doesnt oc, then the X570 is kind of overkill right? Is there an advantage to using this board vs tomahawk? Given TS specs?

Also, we still dont know how much longer AMD will continue using AM4 boards. So this board may not be able to upgrade to Ryzen 5000 or 6000 series. Ryzen 4000 series confirm use AM4 right? TS might be paying more for something that he may not be able to re-use in 3 years?

If TS later decides to oc, then the cpu & cooler kind of gimping the oc right? I get the impression that the r5 3600 is not that great for oc compared to 3700 & 3900? Those are the ones you should get if you wanna oc? So maybe not much diff in terms of performance if you oc r5 3600.

The cooler is Hyper 212? While its an excellent budget cooler, once you go into oc and stressing it out, it kinds of falls a bit behind the more ex coolers, especially the decibel levels? Of course you can change the fan or add 2nd fan while limiting fan speed to reduce noise level, but it doesnt seem to be cooler of choice for oc.

1. PCI-E 4.0 support is the main difference.
2. Yes, AMD has been very clear with their AM4 roadmap. The next 4000 series will be the last AM4. Please don't say "we don't know" when all the info has been public for a long time.
3. For OC of the 3600 it's more than enough. It's also quiet. If TS wants serious OC, then an AIO might be better but the limits of high CPU voltage means that if you don't want degradation you'll stick to thermal limits / OC that the 212x can handle easily.

Yea can comfortably squeeze everything in within $700. But for normal usage, no OC and no pcie gen4 ssd i dont think it makes sense.

$360 vs a b450 tomahawk max for $195 is $165

Thats the difference between 16gb and 32gb ram or 3600 and 3700x.

true. perhaps the right way is to break down what ts needs to advise him proper. wifi gaming if playing low latency requires decent wireless infra. but with such wireless infra based on distance, perhaps a wire would have done the job much better.

if ts dont mind, may we know what games you play, whether they are multiplayer or not, and is wifi a must?

Intel 802.11ax M2 Wifi card (which is a better chip than the one on the Asus) and PCIe wifi M2 adapter with antenna buy from Aliexpress only like USD 20 added up. So you can see just how much you are getting ripped off.

Not sure about now but years ago PSU’s had a switch on them that can be flicked from 110v to 230v. Don’t recall seeing that in my new PSU so they may support both 110/230v like laptop chargers do

Due to house layout, wireless is my only option for network to reach my room unless hacking is involved which is not possible.

I have just re-run CAT7 cabling in my house. Still in the midst of doing another run actually. I have false ceiling so have to cut holes and patch them back up. This project started when I started to change out all my lights to smart lights.

I would much rather run a PC on a LAN cable than Wifi.

Eco mode is the only switch i see but i think its not meant for voltage switch or anything like that.

Since plans to OC, can consider getting MSI Tomahawk B450 MAX. cheaper than the TUF you want.
Case you can consider getting Tecware, comes preinstalled with intake and exhaust fans.
Then buy a Wifi card from carousell or from someone here.

Regarding PSU, only difference is the plug. PSU is meant to stabilize voltage before feeding it to your parts.
Eco-mode on psu (for my SuperFlower at least) is for the psu fan.
