If its OS is as good as android why not? I believe it'll be an android fork in order to be compatible with the android apps.

As long as apps by Google are not on the phone I'm super happy leow

It will cause lots of inconvenience for true Google users. Without Google APIs, lots of apps will sure to be affected. Compatible with Android doesn't mean can run well on forked versions.

Is not easy to introduce a new OS to market. OS is only part of the story. You also need support from varies application developer to suppprt the new OS. With the market already fill with all kinds of applications. How fast can Huawei catch up or failed? Will end user and developer take this risk?

Cannot compare today's situation with Nokia and iOS day. In those day, application is handful. Soon iOS win due to availability of Appstore. Then it become Android vs iOS, anyone can remember how many years Android vs iOS competition last? Yes, until today and it has never end. Most important to know, during competition WinOS on phone. Plus some others officially dead!
Windows mobile died bec of several factors, mostly poor decision making. Firstly they charge a license of 10usd per mobile. Google android was free. See the extent apple plot on qualcomm just for a few dollars per phone license. Secondly Windows mobile followed apple model of non customisation of os while Google allowed companies to slap their own skin n app store. Which company would want a product that they can't differentiate from competitors. In fact Windows mobile is a better designed os than android

If Microsoft had given free, we would have very much have 3rd os.

Importance of Google play services is overhyped. There are many viable alternative apps for core Google apps, maybe except YouTube which can be accessed via browser.

Whether MS OS survive or not is a moot point. It is still an American made OS. Huawei will still be ban from using it..

Without GS, you can't use grab/food/banking/carousell apps at all. Cannot access these on websites except banking/carousell? Google map app can be used though.

Edited:
Since like "华为鸿蒙" is Huawei official Chinese character. Let's see if its really the case.
Yes the chinese name is 鸿蒙,means the initial stage before universe is born. Taken from Taoism.
Wow, just saw this! https://youtu.be/urdiHbTz05M

Seems like more 'news' starting to surface. So the 'official' name is much better than the common guessing before. Got '气派'! (pronounce properly :s13:)

But honestly, name aside, it's no easy task to create another new world between iOS and Android (it did mentioned Android compatible). Nevertheless, I still wish Huawei the best!

The likely fate will be an Android based os for huawei, like amazon. Still possible to survive.

They didn’t even get many things right before the ban, EMUI wise, under the android base. Now they have to start from ground zero, i feel it is abit too much to ask in too little time. I am aware they have been preparing for years with an alternate system and they are only saying it to quell market fears because these plan Bs haven’t been adequately stress tested in real world usage.

Android and iOS have had so many years to build upon and improve, because of their wide user base, bugs and security threats are faster to identify and rectified. I doubt Huawei’s new OS will be quite as polished and without rapid largescale adoption, it will go the way of the windows phone.

I like what they are doing hardware wise and improvements to Camera, batteries etc and overall pricing policy serve to keep other competitors in check and improve as a collective whole, which is good for consumers

Not to forget applications support too. When will the applications ready for new OS?

All I have to say is that this company has made huge improvement over the years. The brand was unheard of until recently. Nor did I think it would one day be able to produce dominant flagships to compete head to head with those of apple and Samsung. Thought it would at max be only a value for money phone maker that only attract the price sensitive. But they started made stellar phones and getting better and better. Maybe copy a bit/a lot at the beginning, but slowly to position itself at the center of the stage being an example for good leading phones.

Hope Huawei survives so that I can still have one more option of reliable phones to choose from with good workmanship, stable system and software, excellent camera and associated software, excellent battery life. That's pretty much all I care for a phone. Of course I wanted cheaper price and more generous storage, but those are secondary.

I am definitely not die hard fan of Huawei. Everything goes as normal without it. But my experience with their phones tells me that they are among the best options and encourages me to hope good of their future phones.

May be you forgot about Honor.

Hahaha, so assuming without knowing the background...

I myself is using Pocophone currently after RMN3. There're another 2 Redmi and 1 Huawei in my house now. I admire Chinese (not China) culture and tradition. I believe my 中文水准 is better than 98% of the typical current generation.

But still... feel of the name is very important. That's why we have 姓名学. It should sound solid, powerful and confident, like '华为' itself, like Snapdragon (骁龙), Kirin (麒麟). Last time the Pentium processor also translated as 奔腾 to have that feel. Why not 喷腾? Windows is 视窗 instead of 窗口, Android is 安卓 (卓越) instead of something like 安得来.

HongMeng sounds so 虚无缥缈,不切实际, wait end up like 红楼梦. :s13: Should team up with Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Oneplus etc to develope a 红盟 OS, still HongMeng, but means Red Alliance... :s13:

Well. Guess Huawei stand for what in English!

I think there is no more $10 USD license in the later release. Apple iOS is one vendor one OS. Still there succeed to capture many developer anyway.

There have been ongoing issues of iTunes app users who spent money or have their profiles in Apple, when switching over to Droids, cannot 'port over' their investments.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, for example, explicitly mentions accounts cannot be shared between Android and iOS.

It is not about overhyping. It is whether are you willing to abandon your years of investments in game saves, subscription etc just to bow down to the Chinese??
