Win 10 RAID 1 help!

Currently running the following on win 10
1 x SSD (OS)
2 x HDD (RAID 1) - win 10 raid

If I need to change the whole system can I just plug out the 2 HDD and plug in back in the new system?

Or do I need to back up my HDD first before changing the system in the event that I need to format the HDD when changing system?

iirc, you must backup first and then change and reconfigure the RAID array. the only way this array will work is with the same chipset used for the RAID. in any case, its always good to do a backup before doing anything.

Thanks! Can anyone else confirm?

I have a problem, the 2 HDD are 8TBs and I don't have anything to backup to other than buying a new one.

Unless the Win 10 RAID means Windows 10 storage spaces mirror.

To answer OP's orig question
If you are using Storage spaces, it SHOULD transfer over
Should being the definitive word here..

If part of the disk transfers over, you can also rebuild the array and sync the untransferred drive to the transferred drive ( be very careful not to select an empty drive as the source..... )

As such, ALWAYS make a backup of ALL data before a transfer / migration is made

I would recommend that you just buy a cheapo raid card ( Silicon Image / Marvel / JMB / Asmedia ) and hardcode the Raid 1 setting in its firmnware. then easier to move around

Raid implementation within windows requires windows to properly remember / pickup the array and i'm sure murphy has its ways....

Raid implementation within motherboard requires BIOS to remember / pickup the array. If BIOS resets and you Ooops boot it with legacy / ahci, then horror of horros, select to format the unformatted drives when the dialog boxes pop up......
