Hi guys,

My pc using win 10 was working perfectly till last week, I suspect kanna virus, cos Russian words started to appear here and there. I tried to do a win repair but after booting up, no issue, can still see the login page, so when I clicked my profile, instead of seeing the normal desktop screen, nothing shows up at all. Just pure black screen.

I can see the mouse tip though. Also from the black screen, I can still access the task manager.

OK fed up I format my thumbdrive 32 bits, and copy and paste into the thumbdrive the win 10 files. Reboot again, boot option, choose the thumb drive, and try install win 10 again. But cannot. Something about mbr. Ok I tried repair, still cannot.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Wrong. Why repair when it is a cyber attack? No repair needed. In our new generation, security is everything in our internet world.
Is Windows Defender switch on? Any internet security suite or antivirus installed? Any protection in your router? If you fact the same situation. First thing to do is to cut the internet. You can unplug your internet cable from your notebook and disable wifi. Switch off your ONT and router to cut the internet so that hacker do not have access to your computer. Clear your browser history and cookies etc in your browser. Do a system restore to the date and time before it happen. Then restart the system. Do not connect to the internet. Call up your ISP technicial support to request them to refresh your network to obtain a new ip address. Then you connect to the internet and update your internet security suite and update your windows 10. Use your internet security suite or AV to do a full scan.

Since you do not have much knowledge it will be best to consult those with knowledge. If your notebook is under warranty can bring it to the service centre so that expert can settle the issue for you. If not under warranty can consult PC hospital.

https://www.disk-partition.com/windows-10/format-hard-drive-windows-10-0528.html

you may meet some situations which cause you to format Windows 10 hard drive. For instance, your partition has been ruined by viruses or there is a few bad sectors and you plan to wipe them from your PC; or you try to upgrade your present hard drive to a larger one, you must format it and then you are allowed to save data on it. To satisfy the demand, we show you how to format hard drive in Windows 10 as follows:
Way1: Format Hard Drive in Windows 10 with Disk Management
Disk Management in Windows 10 is a built-in tool which enables you to format, create, delete, extend, shrink partition without rebooting system. If you want to use this tool to format Windows 10 hard drive, you should open Disk Management by one of the following ways at first.
Right click This PC > Manage > Disk Management
Click start menu and then type Disk Management to search
Click start menu and type cmd to open command line and then input compmgmt.msc and then click Enter
Press "Windows + R" to open the command line and then enter "diskmgmt.msc" to launch Disk Management
Step1: After open Disk Management, right click the Windows 10 hard drive partition you need to format (partition D) and then choose Format.

For my notebook it is simple, control + f2. Actually so many antivirus, firewall and anti-malware in the market so no reason to get infected. Can also use Comodo DNS to filter. Security is everything in internet and it is everyone business.

Thanks for the advice.
I cannot use desktop mode as my screen shows nothing after the initial boot up. I can still see the screen when it comes to choose user profile.

Or is it possible I try reinstall using win 7 via thumbdrive?

I think you shouldn't be replying for the sake of replying.

Your analogy is empty talk without any substances. Anti virus/malware software are not impenetrable, far from it. If internet security is as simple as what you perceive, there won't be a need to hired security professional, you can fit the role to a T. Hardware or software firewall are far from being impenetrable too, if attacks can be prevent and system security is that simple, NASA, FBI, NSA, MINDEF, CERT etc... should hire you to lead the security team. :s8:

The only way to prevent cyber attack is to take the system offline, unplug it from the power source and carry the hard drive in your pocket 24/7 even when you are bathing.

Is the thumb drive tested bootable or not?

Did your pc come with windows 10? Microsoft is doubling down on backward compatibility with windows 10. Some newer CPUs and drivers won't work with windows 7

From what i read i think it is not easy for him to settle it himself unless someone go onsite to help him. The easy way out is for him to sent it to service centre to settle the issue. Just pay $. Many years ago i got Homepage hijacking once which is quite easy to settle.

probably the mbr got corrupted. in this case need to reformat the hard disk before trying to install windows 10 again. and i agree with mod, this henry ng usually spouts useless and inaccurate information about things he clearly knows nothing about.

Of course he need to reformat the hard disk now before trying to install windows 10 again. I am saying that he should not try to use the repair features. Most people using notebook would just restore to factory default and reinstall from the windows 10 image in the recovery drive. This method can be found online too. Easy method. I have restall Windows on different notebooks many times.
