Today my 2 set of new CPU I brought from SLS 2 days ago had arrived at my office. I'm aware that whenever you build CPU from SLS, most of the time they will keep some of the new spare parts which you don't need. I'm alright with it but today I'm very piss off.

They install 2 of my CPU window 10 home edition for my office usage.
Are they aware that they are not allow to sell to company window 10 home edition to company?

I called up the sale person and he even dare to say home edition can be use in office, so I request him to write an email of black and white which your company say home edition is allow to be use in company and he keep quiet.

Then he keep pushing the problem back to me but I told him that what I want is window 10 pro because this is a company usage not a home. If not why I ask him to bill this to company.

I ask him to help me call his Microsoft reseller advise what to do as today is only the 2nd day (if they install it on Monday). Now is night time, they have not contact me back.

Partly is my fault for not checking the invoice because my wife was rushing me to our next appointment and I trust the sales person professionalism but I was WRONG.

Can someone advise me what I can do to negotiate with them to upgrade my window home to window pro edition? I don't mind topping up but not full amount of the upgrade cost which is US $99 (SGD 140+).

For now I not going to say which retail & sales person but if I have to pay that full amount which as good as buying a new copy of window 10 pro edition, I will not hesitate to advice all bro & sis to watch out for the retail shop.

PS: I even ask them to partition 1TB into 2 drive but the sales person never highlight to the technician. If a sales person don't not listen carefully to your customer needs, the retailer will lose a lots of customer in future.

If your invoice stated that you bought Win 10 Home, then you got what you paid for.

The sales staff at SLS is not there to provide you with IT support. The onus is on you to make sure you bought the correct software.

I thought the difference is the functionality that the home edition do not have domain capabilities, and not legal/licensing issue?

I think you can use win 10 home in office

No issue unless you need to join domain or have remote function
than you need the pro version.
Anyway TS, always check the quotation and invoice first.

Just sharing my opinion with you, SLS is like that never
trust them to know what they sell unlike from proper vendor
than different.

If you intend to buy new PC the next round, go through proper
reseller to get quote.
However just take note that if you choose consumer grade model it will surely come with home edition, business model than pro edition.

Than of cuz if your coy want to source for cheaper PC, there are few ways to do but not SLS.

1) Suggest mass replacement, it will cheaper than you buy few units.
2) Leasing/Installment, yes there are such schemes where some coys and even Gov depart are on this scheme to finance their IT equipment

Never DIY PC for coy purposes as if spoil it will be a issue.
Hope this helps and do KIV my post for further IT projects.
Cheers.

If you not going to help, please don't comment. Buying a wrong thing could happen to you or anyone too. For my lesson is a few hundred item and but I just want to look for solution to reduce my cost of mistake. In future if you were given a wrong thing due to your own mistake and it cost over a thousand dollar, will you silently take it or will you look for solution and alert other consumer? When you are in my shoes, you will be piss off as much as I am now.

I will look for a solution but I will not blame the seller for my mistakes.

he is right eh, u never check the invoice properly.. "Partly is my fault for not checking the invoice"

anyway im guessing u need the domain feature thats why u need PRO, maybe u can try upgrading to PRO urself like u said? http://www.howtogeek.com/234946/how-to-upgrade-from-windows-10-home-to-windows-10-professional/

worst case scenario, u can sell away ur windows home edition by getting the buyer to do this:
http://www.howtogeek.com/226510/how...10-license-after-changing-your-pc’s-hardware/

so basically
1. get the buyer to tie YOUR windows HOME license to HIS microsoft account
2. use YOUR windows PRO license (which you have to buy) and activate YOUR PC again
3. get the buyer to activate HIS windows on HIS PC by logging in back to HIS microsoft account.

so u earn back the $ lost for buying the home edition, then u spend $ to buy a new pro edition. make sure u do face to face (means both party bring ur own PCs to somewhere) to prevent any scams

I believe there are soho and smc that uses Home Edition.
If need to join AD and/or remote access then need Pro.

Not too sure if they are using DVD installer or image. If your Windows OS is sealed, maybe you can return back and ask them to amend the receipt to Windows 10 Pro.

Technically can use if you don't need those enterprise or business features.

But from a legal perspective, Microsoft would say it prices the home edition cheaper for non-commercial usage. That's why the professional and enterprise edition of its software is always more expensive. This simply mean that "do anything you want but don't get caught" rule applies here. In most cases, Microsoft won't bother with chasing down SMEs that infringe on 2 licenses. Then it will just boil down to your moral values and conscience whether you can sleep well at night knowing you have cheated on Satya Nadella.

Saw this on another MS page:

When the license is intended for business use (except for academic institutions), the license that is acquired preinstalled or through a full package product must be a Windows Professional version.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/piracy/knowthefacts/windowslicensing.aspx

But at the same time they don't have a specific EULA for Win 10 Home, it's the same EULA for all versions, and the only limits they mention are Educational/Evaluation/NFR.

Limited rights versions. If the software version you acquired is marked or otherwise intended for a specific or limited use, then you may only use it as specified. You may not use such versions of the software for commercial, non-profit, or revenue-generating activities.

(i) Academic. For academic use, you must be a student, faculty or staff of an educational institution at the time of purchase.

(ii) Evaluation. For evaluation (or test or demonstration) use, you may not sell the software, use it in a live operating environment, or use it after the evaluation period. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Agreement, evaluation software is provided “AS IS”.

(iii) NFR. You may not sell software marked as “NFR” or “Not for Resale”.
