I have been trying to download the latest Windows 10 Oct Update (1809) with no success. According to Microsoft, you can either wait for it to push to your PC, or manually trigger it by Windows Update.

I did the manual Windows Update route and all I get is the periodic Windows Defender update.

Anyone successfully updated to 1809 yet ?

Build 1809 recommended to go through Windows update.
Not all PC/laptop support it especially the driver. (Graphic card and etc.)
There are issues so wait until the update is push down for your
PC/System.

Afaik, 1803 was for the Delayed Oct update.
1809 was in December or something like that. Horrible! My Audio card was not detected.

All my system restore files were gone (they were back intact when I rolled back to 1803). And worst off, the UI was so slow and laggy.

Like I had some macro commands set such as to switch to a second screen which is my TV or enabling dual screen on both monitors. But my macros all failed as they were too fast when compared to the slow UI.

Take note, even though I managed to roll back to the 1803 build, letting even my sound card be easily detected again, something about the UI is just broken. Slow and laggy like before.

I had no choice but to do a full image restore from an earlier build that I created after I had all the necessary software installed.

From there, I did not press the Check for Updates button. And let Windows update automatically.

The reason why is because Microsoft said when you click on Check For Updates, you become a level 2 beta tester. Testing out their buggy unstable version of Windows. Can you believe this nonsense? This is for mainstream users and you are forcing people to get bogged down by unstable updates that could potentially ruin people's jobs? Just unacceptable.

But if you really want to die die update to 1809, go ahead. You can feel the sluggishness of the UI for sure and as seen in my experience, going back to 1803 won't help you either.

Plus, if you have no complete backup of the entire drive's image, you can expect not to be able to return to normal from this ordeal.

Thanks for all the advice.

I don't know where to check which update channel I am on. I received my last update (1803) automatically so was expecting the same for 1809.

The reason I need 1809 is the Visual Studio project I am working on requires it.

Anyway, I managed to upgrade to 1809 using the Microsoft url provided by uncle_josh (Thanks !). So far so good, everything works. It actually did a fresh install but without wiping my data so don't know whether this is better or not.
