windows 7 installation

I recently bought a new comp and couldnt activate windows 7 after I made a clean install because my disk was an upgrade disk and the verifier couldnt find windows preinstalled.. Can I buy a oem version and just activate the windows using that oem key? Or do I have to install again? ? My ssd is only 128gb so I hope I do not have to waste time and space to reinstall.

Hi Paladin,

May we know what is the error message that appears during activation? Also, if you are using Upgrade Disk, it is meant only to be used for Upgrade install only. You need to have a base OS before you install Windows 7.

One thing to remember, if you are installing it using OEM then you need to have OEM Product Key to activate it. So in this case, go ahead and install OEM license.

Alternatively, you can contact our customer service at 8528543 to speak with our product activation department.

The disk was bought to upgrade my previous windows Xp to windows 7. However new comp does not have windows per installed and I do not have previous windows disks. Hence when I do clean install, I cannot activate the windows7.

When u mean go ahead install the Oem, do u mean activate using Oem key or I have to install windows 7 again using Oem disk? I hope not to do the latter because my disk is now a 128gb solid state drive and I do not want to waste any space on it nor reformat it and waste my time to install again. I had already downloaded many drivers, software, installed ms office and patches and if I reformat, I will easily need another 2 days to install them.
