Windows 7 run painfully slow. Hardware problem?

I have reformatted and installed windows 7 multiple times but it always has issues running. It takes 10-15 minutes to see the blue win 7 screen and then I will see the busy wheel icon for a very long time before I can see my login profile icon. There is nothing installed in Windows not even the drivers. The first few reformat and reinstalls I was still able to boot quickly, install drivers, surf web except for intermittent freezes. Progressively it got worse until now where I can't enter into desktop. I have done this reformat and reinstall about 5 times.

Single hdd setup, rig is about 4 years old. Rarely used as I travel. Every year I come back the system always have problems. On my second hdd now, first one died somewhere earlier.

Sounds like a HDD problem.

download hd tune and do a health check

rum memtest86 and check HDD. with hdtune

high chance its RAM or HDD

The last time I encountered this issue, was due to failing hard drive. Even if a secondary drive is failing, it will also cause a massive slow down cause Windows is trying to read the drive if I am not mistaken.

yeap windows 7/8 will read EVERY drive incl usb seies b4 it com into windows screen

remove every single storage adapter and secondary drives. boot to just the boot drive then run a simple checkdsk which should tell you if there are any problems. if nothing then download some other specialised app to help with the diagnostics...
