If we buy a brand new SSD and put inside a Macbook, can we directly install Windows onto it?

Or is it compulsory for us to download OS X first, then do via boot camp?

Thanks everyone!

You will need OSX for your MacBook to work and further to that, either Bootcamp or Parallel for your Windows OS.

Then after I install Windows via Bootcamp, can I wipe the partition containing OS X?
Or must I keep it untouched

mmm I thought when you are going through the Bootcamp Utility, they will prompt you to make a new partition for Windows?

So by default, it will be on a different partition

Sorry if I came off as being atas :s22:

This Macbook is actually a hand-me-down from someone else, so it's not like I could choose what kind of laptop I was getting mah.
But I still prefer Windows, so I'm trying to see whether I can work with this Macbook :)

Why not try applications like Parallels which allow you to run both OS?

Parallels seem to drain the laptop's battery life, since you're running two OS at the same time.

That's why I thought about running Windows natively.
Granted that the battery life won't be comparable to OS X, but I think it will still be better than Parallels?

Correct me if I'm wrong

Just do bootcamp, else jus sell the macbook and get a window laptop.

It's an old model... so the resale value isn't high
Feel heartpain to sell.

Will the battery life take noticeable hit if I bootcamp Windows? (Compared to OS X's battery life)

Install OSX, u need it to bootcamp with the proper drivers for windows.

It's easy.

For windows. Just download Windows 10. No need to activate. It's free.

You can create a USB for Windows and just boot off it, wipe the entire HDD/SSD and install only Windows on it. If you are using apple peripherals on it, then install the bootcamp drivers for the apple stuffs.

On newer Macs, you will need to use Bootcamp to make the USB or partition drives, this will have drivers for the windows setup for usb3, kb and touchpad.

Actually, my experience of Windows 10 on my MacBook beats many many of the Windows laptops that I have used. Ironically, my best experience of using Windows 10 is using it on my MB, through bootcamp.
