How many PCs you have at home on your network? Handphone users? Do you have CCTV on your home network? Do you have IoT devices? Do you self-host eg. websites, personal cloud etc

Turn off UPnP on your router.

Make sure your router doesn't open any ports.

Put your CCTV and IoT devices on a separate vlan. Restrict their internet access.

Either enable adblockers and malicious site blockers on all devices like PC and handphones /. Or install Pihole/Unbound on a small raspberry pi to block these sites.

The above are the basic for most home networks.

If you self-host, then the threat matrix is very different.

Edit: do you have a NAS at home? Turn off remote access or any cloud access via QNAP , Synology etc etc. Likewise for CCTV. Access via Tailscale installed on the raspberry pi

Ensure that your PC is updated for either Windows 10 and 11.

This.
For Windows 10, ensure you enroll into Enhanced security
For Windows 11, Make sure you have install the latest version of Windows 11.
Win 11 26H2 comes with many improvement including lesser RAM usage.

For windows pc expert, i installed customised win11 24h2 home without defender. :)
My pc is less bolated at a tiny risks, better use and play performance. Same for my laptop, tablet and smartphone. But i would recommend windows defender for typical users.

If don't play high intensive games, setup dual boot and install Linux. Most Win apps can run in Linux via Wine. There are Linux version for telegram, Whatsapp and Browsers. You can try out.

If don't like, just uninstall Linux. Very straightforward.

Personally I observed running in Linux is much smoother than using Windows.
