Windows Recovery Drive

I'm trying to create a recovery drive for my Windows.

1. What do you normally use to store the recovery file ? Do you use thumb drive , microsd ?

2. Can I use the recovery drive for different computers, eg I have 2 computers, can use the same drive ? I ask because if I can, then I don't have to purchase 2 thumbdrives to store the file.

3. And I guess must recover to the same computer, right ?

2. A recovery drive is to restore your PC back to working condition when your system crash. It will not contain any personal data.

Thanks for the reply. It says that it will wipe the HDD to put in the OS image. Question is if I have a 500GB or 1TB HDD and I let it wipe, then I use it to store data (assuming that I would let the OS image be outdated), is this possible ? Would it be able to recover the OS after I store other stuffs in the HDD ?

Else I really need to get a 32GB thumbdrive / microSD to put the image in.

Best to use 3rd party backup software like Acronis. You only need to recover back whatever you backup previously.

HD need to partition from Win10 setup giving est 150GB for C drive. After Win10 setup finish, format the unallocated partition as D drive.

Always store whatever in D drive. Reason if anything happen in C drive partition, you only need to recover the C drive back (of course must backup first).

Oh, i see. So it just copy everything from the backup drive back to the OS partition.

As for Acronis, looking for a cost free solution. May be not so cost free as I need to buy thumbdrives to do the backup.

Oh is not just copy. You need to bootup from the Acronis CD to their user interface. Why need to use thumbdrive, ext USB HD is a better solution. When you do the acronis backup, point your backup file to your D drive. Once you complete, boot to win10 and copy that backup file to an ext USB HD. This way you have 2 copy for safe keeping.

Read up the user menu, quite straight forward.
