i've tried the 1st two. i would be interested to try a cab franc, it's interesting that they're using a red grape. IMO the riesling is better than the vidal, there tends to be more complexity and better balance.

thank lilprince, i'm keen but i'm not too sure of my schedule next week, this week is rather busy for me.

in other news:

Premium wine store 'HERMITAGE WINES' located at the Basement of ONE Marina Boulevard (the NTUC, WDA & Microsoft Building) is down to its last week of mid-year sales. I chanced upon it just last night, they bring in pricey stuff but they have lots of discount wines for the sales.

There are several clusters where you can buy 2 for $20/$30/$40/$50/$99 and a lot of these wines have a decent amount of bottle age on it so you can drink it now and not to worry about cellaring it. both new and old world wines and seem to be quite good. So do take a look within the week. Nearest MRT is Raffles Place, it's diagonally opposite Lau Pa Sat.

I purchase 2 wines from the 2 for $50 section:
A '05 Spanish Albarino and a '04 Tokay-Pinot Gris from Alsace (France)

for those who are interested, my new blog entry is not about a wine review (surprise, surprise) but rather a look into my lengthy conversation with one of the people from major wine importer and distributor 'E-WINEASIA' while at the supermarket. I do mentioned some of the wines I tried there and you can also access the link for their newly revamped site on the blog. (FYI I am not affiliated with their company nor am I getting paid)

A relatively length read but hopefully for those who are keen on the wine scene.

Now being the period of the Singapore Food Festival, certain shopping centres have some kind of food fair and there will almost always be a wine booth somewhere.

one my way through Marina Square yesterday there was a similar setup of food fair at the main atrium and I spotted a wine booth. It was run by HERMITAGE wines, whose main retail store is in the basement of One Marina Boulevard.

HERMITAGE wines brings in a wide range of wine but their stock of higher end wines are more impressive. However they're proving some rather good entry level wines at heavily discounted prices. There are about 15 different wines on sale and about 70% of them are hovering around the $19/$20/$25 region, which makes it very very approachable. The most expensive one was about $45 bucks, but even that was heavily discounted from $70-ish original price.

I bought a $20 bottle while i tasted, not bad, balanced and a good wine for everyday drinking. THe original price was about $30+. So do check it out, 'cos the deals are pretty good.

Hi all,

I am starting a wine interest group in a community club. The objective is to gather wine lovers from all walks of life and dispel the myth of wine appreciation is only for the "atas" i.e. rich.

Some of the activities I have in mind now are:

- monthly BYOW (Bring Your Own Wine) sessions in the CC or even at bars or restaurants. ( I do know some of these places do offer free corkage as long as we get their foods)

- internal or external wine tastings sessions and other wine-related events

- mass purchase of wine and accessories from distributors

Is there any other activities that you would like to see in the wine interest group? Feel free to provide any input.

Cheers! :)

of course there's always supermarkets.
Wine Connection sells fairly priced wines
Budget is a always an issue. I'm a student too so I take lots of time to check out wine promotions from vairous retailers and distributors. It's good to get on their mailing lists so that they can update u on their promotions.

To taste more, also take part in wine fairs, wine events, wine tastings, these allow you to taste many different types of wine without blowing your budget.

Find a group of friends who are interested as well and you guys can share on a more expensive bottle to enjoy for yourselves. But it doesn't hurt to once in a while (once a month) make a purchase of a wine that costs $40+. because a large number of the $20+ wines are entry level efforts which are good for forming a foundation of palate but eventually you'd need to go up the ladder a little bit to taste a little more complexity.
