I just placed order for 2002 and waiting for them to revert on availability. Yup, nice to have this 2 buddy to share some of the wines. They love aged and mature wines so in our pool are mainly 70s & 80s Bordeaux & Burgundy. Normally we have wines session once a month and drink our shared wines. Because of this I gained quite a lot experience on aged & matured wines.
But my problem is my stocks going up because I buy more but consume far less. But I bought the wines mainly because I want to drink them and it is on offer. So I have the idea to host the wines dinner with wines taking from my cellar and then the cost share equally among the participants. But not sure if this idea works or not.

@hkm: seem like you have too many bottles that you want to drink them (saw your wines stock on cellartracker... wah!) ...

yes, i wish i can try more of aged bordeaux, which is generally pricey. i came across one of the wines fan during a tasting event, he is of the view that we should try to try more of the aged but pricier bordeaux, instead of cheaper but much younger vintage on discount. cos, he commented that the aged wines (even they are not from a very good yr or vineyard)generally give more secondary flavour, which we may not get to taste it from younger vintage. and we can decant younger wines for hours to soften the tannin, but, it may not give you the secondary flavour.

i tend to agree with him, but, tt means my wines purchases will get more expensive as well (and i have to eat bread more often...)..

Yes he is right and that's why my friends like aged Bordeaux and he consider only 70s and earlier are mature, some 80s are not yet mature and 90s are still young. Having said that aged wines are not for everyone as the taste profile tend to develop to more secondary flavours. But it's still good experience especially you put both young and aged wines side by side to compare.

Generally aged wines are more expensive and harder to find in the market. That's why we pay lesser and get young wines to cellar. But that require patient and also incur storage cost. Having said that it's still possible to find reasonably price aged wines in the market although it may be more expensive than the later vintage. I can help to organize tasting to taste aged Bordeaux of 70s, 80s and 90s so we can learn how the wines develop. I reckon the price for such wines is around $80-$120 per bot and if 1 person consume half bottle, per person cost will be around $50-$60.

Shafer Hillside select 2002 sold out so we got the 2004 instead.

I think Ikileo should be back today :)

i went to ponti for their xmas cocktail last nite, tasted 10 bottles of pretty good wines from burgundy, bordeaux, NZ, Napa, Spain & Italy. some of them are really outstanding!

@HKM: get to try the shafer one pt five (think shld be 2004), very impressed with its silk finish and perfumed nose. tt's definitely my wine of the nite!!

looks like the only date i am available is actually on 17th evening. my dad wants to have a family dinner on 16th (Friday) evening and 17th (Sat) afternoon i have a wedding lunch to attend :(

we could always switch out the dinner to brunch/lunch/dinner on 18th instead?

hkm + 1: option 3
looiwte: option 2 & 3
reign: to be confirm

Sure I am ok to postpone the session and choose another date that most of us if not all can attend.
