I have 1 chance go out this month and I'm aiming for Crystal Wine's Bibi Testamatta Vertical Tasting on 11 Aug. I have been wanted to try this wine
since I learnt it from Drops of god manga. Bibi Graetz made his first vintage of Testamatta in 2000 and this wine was awarded Best Red Wine at the Bordeaux Vinexpo in 2003. This is actually their 2nd attempt to organise Testamatta Vertical Tasting. I signed up the 1st tasting last year but was cancelled due to lack of response. I see that they have been carrying this wines quite a while and on promotion on many occasion. So I think this wine is obviously less popular in Singapore and there are chances that this tasting may be cancelled again. If again the tasting have to be cancelled I will join you guys for this round session :o

By the way my friend asked me to join them at this Don Quijote but I have to give it a miss. Maybe someone here would be interested.

Don Quijote, serving Singapore’s Most Critically Acclaimed Spanish Cuisine since 2008, is celebrating its 2nd Anniversary at Dempsey with a 2-Week-Long Wine & Tapas Fiesta offering 5 different glasses of Spanish wines and cava every night, amounting to a total of 40 different labels over the two week period, all for just $59++ per person/ per night.

I signed up for the Bordeaux 2nd Growth 2006 & 2007 tasting this Saturday @ Crystal Wines..

Just got a call from them. The event is cancelled due to low attendance. Sucks man.

Hope the event next week will have enough numbers to carry on.

I find the Bordeaux 2nd Growth 2006 & 2007 tasting this Saturday @ Crystal Wines quite pricey @$115 so never consider. Every year we can go wines for Asia to taste Bordeaux wines for free....

Agreed. High prices (@ $115) and short notice period (news only came out on Tues) probably contributed to the low take up rate.

The caller told me only 6 people signed up. :(

But if we factor in the number of wines and the quality, i guess it's not too bad a deal..

Well, too bad it's not going ahead..

You mentioned wine for asia? When's that?? Where???

it an annual event in SG. originally started off as an event purely for the trade and perhaps the last day open for the public. last year it became a bit more public accessible but in turn i felt the wine showing wasn't as strong over the years. but at least more people got to experience different wines (or at least find an excuse to get hammered).

Wine For Asia

this link was for the 2011 edition. i can't find any info for the 2013 edition. maybe no more??

Am at Enoteca Takashimaya and like the rest, there's a National Day offer here too - 23 wines on promo at 47 each, including Castello di Ama’s Il Chiuso and Montevertine’s Pian Del Ciampolo. The wine available for tasting is lovely, a Cerbaiona Toscana Rosso, Sangio Merlot blend from Montalcino. Great cherry fruit and voluptuous texture, but at 70 bucks is just a bit ex for me.

i'm not buying anything this month but the rieslings and pinot noirs are a sure winner.

also if u want champagnes, the pierre peters is really good, even the cheapest one. i've tasted 3-4 of those champagnes on his list, very good.

On NDP itself my family will be having a BBQ at home. As usual I’m planning the menu. My BBQ is not the usual chicken wings, fishballs and bee hoon you get at East Coast Park. It’s a proper menu. But either way, as my family is not a big wine consumer (except me), I’ll just open up 1 bottle: 2009 Two Hands Angel’s Share Shiraz. I had it earlier this year in Jan and I felt this had all the stuffing of a very good mid tier Aussie shiraz.

The next day on the 10th, I will be cooking a dinner for my group of friends as one of them is back in SG for a while. The 2 wines are : 2005 Wolfer Vollenweider Rieslings Spatlese Goldgrube, from the small plot of Goldgrube in the Mosel region of Germany. The red will be the 2003 Abadal Reserva from the small Spanish region of ‘Pla de Bages’, near Barcelona.

Why I chose these wines is because my NUS friend who is back in SG for a while, we were on exchange in Germany back in 2008. He was in a different Germany uni but we visited several cities together. In the Munich marketplace we found a small wine store specializing in small but very good producers; that’s where I got the Rieslings.

As for the Spanish wine, my friend and I visited Barcelona as well and we went to one of the best wine bars in the city, tucked away just outside the city centre overlooking a gothic church in a public square. The staff was all certified sommeliers and we asked for a recommendation of a local wine, and we were introduced to Abadal. We drank the 2003 Abadal 3.9 (a tier lower than the Reserva) and it was one of the first wines that really made me go ‘wow’. I loved it. Back in SG I found the 1999 Abadal Crianza (a tier lower than the 3.9) in Booze Wine Store and bought their remaining 2 ’99 Abadal Crianzas for a steal of $36 each. This was back in 2008/2009 and it tasted awesome. So now this sole bottle of 2003 Abadal Reserva I will share with him and our friends. I had asked one of my friends making a trip to Barcelona to buy it for me :D

Wine is really amazing especially when there are stories of friendship behind it. I still remember the first wine I shared with my gf on one of our first dates.

i am quite sure tt the wines you chose should be of good quality. but, i think more importantly is the thought behind the wines, it is always very nice to remember a gathering by the bottle of wine tt we enjoy, esp tt particular bottle which share something in common. Cheers & enjoy your gathering.

Hi, dont know much about wine but I'm thinking of buying a bottle wine as a house warming gift. Any recommendation for a good one? Most importantly where can I get it?

Depends mate.
Depends on whether you want to get something that your friend likes to drink (in that case you have to find out what he/ she likes) or something presentable.

You can get very generic wines for gifts, like champagne, for example, which is easily identifiable and enjoyed by all.

Or you can consider getting a magnum, which makes a really nice presentable gift due to its size and presence. :)

hey ivan, welcome to the forum.

2 most important question:

1) What's your budget?

2) Is the person you are giving the wine to someone who is very into wine?
