2007 Casanova de Neri Brunello Tenuta Nuova, Italy Price S$108.90 nett/btl
The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova saturates the palate with masses of super-ripe dark fruit, tar, licorice and new leather. The Tenuta Nuova is an especially full-bodied, seamless Sangiovese deeply influenced by the Mediterranean climate of this warm site in the south of Montalcino. Layers of fruit build to an effortless, resonant finish laced with considerable aromatic nuance. This is another terrific showing from Giacomo Neri and his talented team. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.

2008 San Giusto a Rentennano La Ricolma IGT, Italy Price S$119.90 nett/btl
The 2008 La Ricolma (Merlot) is brilliant. Layers of well-articulated fruit, violets and minerals come together beautifully in the glass in this brilliant Ricolma. The wine possesses dazzling inner perfume and tons of freshness all the way through to the pure, chiseled finish. I especially like the balance of opulence and vibrancy here. This is a hugely impressive effort from San Giusto a Rentennano, not to mention easily one of the finest wines made in central Tuscany in 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028.

2007 Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino, Italy Price S$108.90 nett/btl
The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is lush, sweet and inviting. Today the 2007 doesn’t quite have the sheer visceral thrill and excitement of the 2006, but it more than makes up for that with its early approachability. Dark red berries, spices and crushed flowers are layered into the finish. There is plenty of volume but not a lot of structure. The 2007 Brunello was made from three separate parcels with different altitudes and exposures. Malolactic fermentation was done in steel and the wine was aged in a combination of casks and neutral small French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

1997 Tenuta San Leonardo, Italy Price S$96.90 nett/btl
Still exhibiting a lively color. Deep, satisfying aromas of black berry fruit on the nos, still forceful and youthful. Hints of toast are there, too, but well integrated. Concentrated and complex, solid of structure, this is a wine that combines power with eleganc, complexity, and very considerable lenght. Will happily improbe and hold for a dozen+ years.

2005 CVNE Vina Real Rioja Reserva, Spain Price S$55.90 nett/btl
The 2005 Rioja Vina Real Reserva can be drunk now and over the next decade. Lots of tobacco leaf, licorice, herb, new saddle leather, black currant and cherry notes emerge from this graceful, full-bodied, rich Rioja. It is already complex aromatically, deep, layered and impressively endowed.

2006 Mas Romani (Mas Alta) La Basseta, Spain Price S$109.90 nett/btl
The 2006 La Basseta is 45% Carinena, 40% Garnacha, and 15 % Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 15 months in 50% new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple, it has a sensational aromatic array of liquid minerals, wood smoke, underbrush, lavender, incense, black cherry, and blueberry that leapfrogs from the glass. Surprisingly elegant, it has that extra dimensionality that only old vines can produce. Complex, hedonistic, and exceptionally lengthy, this brilliant effort will evolve for several years and offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2026.

2008 Vega Sicilia Alion, Spain Price S$99.90 nett/btl
Deep ruby. Expressive aromas of candied cherry and cassis, with complicating notes of cola, anise and violet. Plush and seamless on the palate, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors and slow-building oak spice and licorice nuances. Closes on a smoky note, with spiciness and very good persistence. Pretty impressive for the year.

2010 Zind Humbrecht Riesling Brand Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru, Alsace Price S$89.90 nett/btl
Average age of vines: 60 years – can age till 2035+.
Being one of the last to finish fermenting Riesling, this wine still shows strong fermentation character (lees, slight reduction) and the more pure fruity aromas will take some time to come out. Usually Brand is one of our MOST aromatic wines and this one will not be year exception. It just Requires more time. The palate is a model of harmony Between Relatively high sweetness and great acidity sharp. This wine tastes much drier than what one can expect in seeing the RS. The finish is long and delicate, with complex citrus and minerals notes. Amazing aging potential.

2009 Zind Humbrecht Riesling Clos Hauserer, Alsace Price S$60.90 nett/btl
One whiff and sip of Zind-Humbrecht’s 2009 Riesling Clos Hauserer and you recognize that the same fruit as informs this was the bearer of the intense minerality and high-toned fruit concentration found in this year’s “Calcaire” blend. White peach, mirabelle, and quince with their pits and pips seem to be shadowed by their distilled essences and are saturated with brine and oyster shell. Lusciously juicy and exhilaratingly dynamic in its finishing fruit-mineral interaction, this mouth-watering Riesling ought to be experienced in its youth, but will almost certainly also bear following for 12-15 years. The low-acidity of the vintage is not felt at all, except to the extent that – as with this year’s Goldert Muscat as well – 15 grams of residual sugar proves sufficient to result in noticeable though deliciously-integrated sweetness.

2009 Zind Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Herrenweg de Turckheim Vieilles Vignes, Alsace
Price S$60.90 nett/btl
-I couldn't resign myself to putting the fruit from this one parcel of very old vines into the generic,- says Olivier Humbrecht by way of explanation for a 2009 Gewurztraminer Herrenweg de Turckheim Vieilles Vignes of only 12.6% alcohol and correspondingly unabashed sweetness (though granted, the impressive 2007 version was sweet even at 15.8%). Mint and cinnamon candy, rose water, mocha, caramel, and litchi inhabit this creamy, caressing, quite delicate, and hauntingly persistent confection. Here is strictly a self-sufficient wine for meditation and self-indulgence, one apt to be worth following for at least the next 15 years and quite probably significantly longer.
