Not a lot but u can get the basic stuff at supermarkets. specialized wine shops and importers will bring in the higher end and rarer stuff.

earlier in my wine journey i visited wine connection relatively often as it gives you a very wide range of wines for your to try at decent prices.

plus there's food and the setting is good for friends to drink and have fun together.

progressively i've learnt to identify country, regions, styles, producers that I like. from there i move on to more specialty shops where they carry that specific producer. because of their clientele and demographic, wine connections stocks wines who tastes are generally quite approachable by the masses.

so social drinking and for those just starting on wine wine connection is a good place to start. as for those wines you've mentioned, 2012 is very young for a bordeaux but it's probably an entry level type of bordeaux, so make sure you give it a good decant.

as for the washington state wine, i've never had it but it should quite easy drinking and enjoyment. it will be good to get some cheese and cold cuts and hams to match, unless you are having dinner.

I opened the washington state wine by rayn patrick.. medium body, rich and pretty thick. I should have let it breath for awhile as it was alittle too sweet for my liking. but after some breathing, it was superb :)

Can i ask a silly question. Recently my folks got a couple bottle of penfolds Bin389 which i read should be aged till around 2020. can i just leave it in my cupboard or should i get a proper wine cellar and keep it chilled?

its a very valid qn.

Get a proper wine storage unit. Its worth the investment and you will be able to start collecting more ageworthy wines to enjoy for the future.

Our local temp is not optimal for long term storage.

Bin 389 is worth keeping and ageing. And when u open remb to decant also

Thanks. I realised the 389 i have comes with cork instead of screwcaps. I always screw up with corks and i worry after 5years or so of storage it will degrade and i end up having to filter my red wine from the broke cork when opening LOL

Wine cellars any to introduce? some are really out of my budget. Looking at 12-18bottles max only..

Wine Cellar | Wine Chiller | Wine Cabinet | Homestore SG

Vintec i heard is quite mainstream and good but goes at ard $800

I am considering the Kadeka or Lucell Wine Cellar(12 Bottles) leaning towards lucell, i heard is a local brand. anyone can share or give me insights on it? budget around $400

I thought of getting another bottle of bin 9 to try but i cannot find them anywhere so far... any other interesting aussie wine to intro?

I am also keen to get the Moss Wood Margaret River Pinot Noir. Anyone tried that before? i had pinot Noir from Nova Vita during X'mas i think it was okay not too bad.

it wont degrade as long as you keep it properly. by lying it on its side in a not too dry environment etc... this keeps the cork moist to prevent it from cumbling over the years. anyway most of the corks that crumble are from wines that are very old. if it's aged only 5 years properly, it shouldn't crumble.

Vintec is definitely one of the top brands out there. i use a kadeka at home with about a 40+ bottle capacity but i somehow squeeze in over 50 haha...

there are SOOOOO many aussie wines in the Singapore. Singapore market's biggest import of wine come from France and Australia. I don't even know how to get started!

Some of the good producers that are available in SG include:
- Penfold's
- Clonakilla
- Torbreck
- Greenock Creek
- Two Hands
- Henschke
- d'Arenberg
- de Bortoli
- Parker
- Tyrrell's
- Glaetzer
- Mollydooker
- Langmeil
- Kay Brothers
- Elderton
- Standish
- St Hallett
- Brokenwood
- Wild Duck

This list in non-exhaustive and there are a lot lot more. best if you are starting is to attending tastings and when you buy, always buy a diff producer or region or grape to try and expand your palate. just remember to do your research.

Do you have problems with the cork after years of storages it degrades?

Any recommendations for wine cellar for $400 or its too low a budget LOL..

when placing wine in the cellar, do u need to rotate them liek every 6 months so the corks are moist properly?

Sorry i am an oob here :D

we all are noobs in some way or another, it's perfectly fine.

i do not have problems with the cork in proper storage. maybe for those 20,30,40 year old wines may have issues. but just filter out is ok

i can't remb what is the budget range but Kadeka is a good value brand that's decently prices.

in the wine fridge no need to twist. when horizontal the cork will be in full contact with the wine.

Kadeka most basic entry model is the 15 bottle capacity which cost around $300.
The lucell wine chiller i believe is using a type of thermo electric cooler instead of the compressor type found in Kadeka and Vintec.
I can't comment how good thermo electric cooling is.
Of course if you are looking to store more bottles and more expensive ones in the future you will need a higher capacity and a reliable wine chiller.
Both brands like Kadeka and Vintec are recommended here.

2 months back i was shopping for a 20 bottle wine chiller but couldn't get any decent one at the capacity. And at that time when i just started collecting, i was already at 12-15 bottles.
Kadeka did have a 24 bottle capacity but i did not like the design of the bottle placement.
So the next step up on the Kadeka range will be the 39 bottle capacity which cost around $800-$900 which was out of my budget.

In the end i got myself a 30 bottle Vintec wine chiller at around $600 plus a free pair of Riedel wine glasses which i though was quite a good buy.

Thanks for your kind input.

i thought of the vintec 30 bottle chiller but $600 is abit out of my budget considering my wines are around $20-$100 range. I current have about 4-5 bottles. I am not a exactly a regular wine drinker. Its to mature some of the speical wines for special occasions..

i was looking at the lucell brand ones heard its local but its so hard to even find proper information. I heard Europace is not bad too.. that said. Vintec where did you managed to get it @ $600 + rRedel glasses? hehe good deal. i keep seeing vintec at the $700-800 range.

there are alot of debates on compressor vs thermo electric cooler an that compressor tend to vibrate etc. Maybe users of either one can comment? It will be place in my living room or bomb shelter away from the light source so but there were mentioned that thermo electric require some sort of ext air con to be on in the room to reach opt temperature. true?

how will you like your vintec so far? a 15-20 bottles cellar should be perfect.

Was looking at
EWC 152 Wine Cooler
or
Lucell Wine Cellar(18 Bottles) LW218D - Wine Cellar | Chiller | Cabinet - Home Appliances
or

kadeka or vintec hmmm? haha.... sucks to be poor

My Vintec unit so far so good. The only draw back i had was that it occasionally gives out a low humming compressor noise when the unit re-release the coolant. I placed the chiller in my kitchen so the noise don't affect me much.

I bought my Vintec at Parasik, and it was listed at around $700-$800 like you mentioned. But i got it at a lower rate. Sometimes the resellers are not able to list out prices that are below the RSP to the public so you need to approach and ask.

However the Vintec warranty i believe is 1 year as compared to Kadeka 3 years warranty.
Maybe some Kadeka owners here can comment more on the warranty details.

Taking a look at it, indeed while i was considering a 24bottle capacity kadeka too. Looks like its either the 15bottle option or the 24bottles.

hmm.my wallet bleeds for the 15bottles one but my heart wants the 24 bottles cellar. LOL difference of $200

any bros here using either the 15 or 24 bottle cellar? can comment?

btw called up parissilk and visited them. was impressed with their service.

2 things I didn't like about kadeka 24 bottle was the narrow physical form design and the metal shelves instead of wooden ones.

agree with the metal shelves. It seems like the materials for 15 bottles cellar looks much cheaper, the sealing, the workmanship etc and it comes with out a temp meter for reading. I was tempted with the europace 15 bottles but its metal shelving as well.

They are asking for $270 for the 15 bottle and $485 for the 24 bottle thats like $200 more for a fan, better workmanship and the compressor in front. that said it seems like the standard model for Kadeka is the 39 bottles model.I need to get a chiller badly... hmmm:s11:

Get the biggest one you can fit in the space. You always tend to end up with more wine than chiller space - at least that's me. Very often, they claim XX bottles, but in reality, you can probably only fit less in (e.g. the bottom shelf has got part of the reefer machinery at the back so it's not deep enough to put a whole bottle straight in). Factor that in.

headed to Bordeaux in late March for wine tasting (just one tour in Medoc though, no time :(. Wanted so badly to fit in St. Emilion in it too)

Anyone been there? Or have any recommendations on where to go for just a day? Thanks!
