any recommended reds to buy at changi dfs?

duty on a bottle of wine is only about S$7.50 (exact amount depending on alcohol content) so there's not much savings buying it at DFS. If you see something you like which is cheaper than the stores, then by all means - but it's not like the pricing for spirits which is a lot cheaper.

Got a qn: if certain grape varietals do better in warm n dry climates (like reds that give a powerful flavour), isn't 2015 the perfect vintage for Californian reds since they have the worst drought ever?

Partially right, only the more expensive and hardly ones. You will have to pay a lot for the price increase. Cheaper reds will not be available.

Perhaps it might be worth checking out some of the 2nd growth chateaux in future. Some of them are on par with the 1st growth, yet may cost partially lesser

2005 is one of the finest vintage but also expensive. Even though it is nearing its 10th year mark, many of the wines are still in the early stages of maturity and tannic to drink at the moment.

Heard Parker may be reassessing the 2005 again, and if he upgrades the existing ratings the prices may rise further.

y not give www.finewines.com.sg a try. they sell some 2nd growth wines at affordable prices. If you do not mind damage labels, you can get a good bottle at a low price too.

I personally like Lynch Bages. Although its a 5th growth but quite comparable with 1st growths

Hey y'all,

This is my first post in the wine forum ;P.

Does anyone have some good suggestions for wine pairing for local food. Specifically I'm doing a rendang next week and some other spicy Indo-thai dishes.

Thanks so much!

Ajl
Try this Grand Cru. Pairing suggested by our 3 Star Michelin Sommelier.

Search for Beef Rendang and The French Cellar for pairing suggested.

Hi all,

My wife-to-be & myself are not normally wine drinkers. Are there any easy drinking Australian red & white to recommend for wedding banquet? Looking to get 24 bottles, budget around $20/bottle. Thank you very much.

I will suggest decanting or if no decanter, open it a few hours earlier and leave it.

Were the sales mostly on 2011 Bordeaux?

no, storewide, some were 20% (the one i got), some italian wines were selling at 40% discount.

Saw a magnum chianti (not sure which vineyard) going for $98 :s22:

Usually no harm decanting a young wine, young Bordeaux are typically robust enough to stand oxygen.

Is this a Vintage port, Single Quinta port or something else? They can get better with age, and thus affects the pricing, and whether it has any risk of storage issue. If it is neither of the two, then it generally can be consumed well if it is unopened.

There are merchants who deal in secondary market, example would be Robert Rees of Wine Exchange Asia. Probably you can ask him for a quote?

Nice thread, do keep it alive.

Like to contribute on a recent wine i bought from Lazada's sale.

It's an exotic Moroccan Premier Cru rare red blend of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. I doubt most people have the chance to taste wines from this region of the world.

Juicy dark berries, slight leather after taste, dark berries on the nose & beautiful dark ruby color. luckily I was given 2 bottles of this by a Moroccan friend because I don't think I'll ever have it again. Every vintage I've had for 7+ years has been amazing!

I am thus surprised that the 2008 vintage is available locally on Lazada for a reasonable $35. Do a search for Chateau Roslane.

It's definitely worth a try.:)

cheers
Wendie

1 bottle of Cockburns Special Reserve Port and 1 bottle of Taylor's LBV port.

Anyway thanks for the info! I will try contacting Wine Exchange Asia :)
