NV Champagne Suenen Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra-Brut
My 3rd bottle of this. Very bright and fresh. Loads of apple on the flavour making it very vibrant. Made with 100% Chardonnay. Available at WEA Wines

2013 Tolpuddle Vineyard Pinot Noir
My first and only bottle, wanted to try after a good review. From Coal River in Tasmania, this is a lovely soft and supple pinot noir. The aroma was beautifully intense full of red fruit and rose. Very balanced and full of character. Available at Bottles & Bottles. Imported by Monopole.

1 had about 2 glasses worth of the Tolpuddle Pinot Noir from Tasmaina remaining which i drank 48 hours after my dinner. I had kept it in the fridge during then.

As it warmed up to proper serving temperature it was tasting even better. more expressive. THe supple body was still there but the moreish ripeness of fruit and earthy complexity showed through even more. Very delicious and definitely needed time and air to show itself properly.

so next time if you can't finish a good wine, just seal it back and keep it chill for 1-2 days and taste it. it will continue to evolve slowly in that contained environment.

Had a sushi Dinner and brought a 2007 Wittmann Westhofener Riesling Trocken 'S' from Rheinhessen, Germany.

20170226_195054_zpsajys7myx.jpg

How to read the label:

Wittmann: Producer's name

Westhofener: Is the name of the sub-region that's in the bigger region called Rheinhessen. In this case the village/municpality is called Westhofen, so the wines from there are 'Westhofener'. This kind of thing is you just have to memorize.

Riesling: Name of the grape variety

Trocken: It means 'Dry' in German. So it's not a sweet wine.

'S': This is their own marketing/branding term. So usually on their websites they will say that the different names mean. In this case this represents the 'Selection' of riesling grapes from their tops sites.

German rieslings are known to be able to age for a long long time. And it's not just the sweet ones. The German label equivalent of 'grand cru' wines (in German it's called Großes Gewächs) is reserved for their dry wines only.

At 10 years old this wine was very fresh, bright citrusy and peach nose. On the body it's more rounded and fuller; the flavour is very intense and vibrant. A very exciting and delicious wine that we drank over 2+ hours.

This was purchased from a personal contact but I believe the official importer is still 'UNIQUE FOOD & WINES' company.

By Hedy Khoo

It is one of the best wines produced by his uncle's boutique winery and he decided to take the limited stock off the market to keep in his private collection.

But come March 4, Mr Giacomo Pallesi, 30, owner of Angra Wine & Spirits, will sell 60 bottles - half of what he has left - to The Straits Times readers at the first edition of the ST Wine Fair at The St Regis Singapore.

The Cabernet Franc Atlante 2011 produced by Paolo e Noemia d'Amico in Umbria, central Italy, is rated RP91 - an indication of exceptional quality - by wine authority Robert Parker Wine Advocate (RPWA).

Mr Pallesi said: "I am very passionate about sharing my Italian traditions. My company takes pride in capturing the wine culture from harvesting the grapes to the final bottled experience.

"I look forward to sharing the 2011 Atlante's story with ST readers at the fair."

The ST Wine Fair, organised by the newspaper in association with RPWA, will showcase a curated selection of more than 100 wines, both Old World and New World, all RP-rated and available for tasting.

A large number of the wines are rated RP90 to RP96.

Wines rated RP90 to RP95 are terrific and outstanding, and those rated RP96 to RP100 are extraordinary. Visitors can enjoy discounts and exclusive promotions for exquisite wines at the fair.

Entry to the fair is priced at $20 per person.

The entry fee can be redeemed for a $20 discount off any ST Wine Club Gold or Platinum subscription package purchased at the event.

The ST Wine Club is a premium wine club launched last December by the newspaper in collaboration with RPWA.

Subscribers get a selection of two to four bottles of wine delivered to them every month.

These specially selected wines are highly rated, scoring RP90 points and above.

Mr Warren Fernandez, The Straits Times' editor and editor-in-chief of Singapore Press Holdings' English, Malay and Tamil Media Group, said the response to the ST Wine Club has been very good.

"So, together with our friends from Robert Parker Wine Advocate, we thought it would be a good idea to organise an event that wine lovers would enjoy," he added.

"We're happy that ST readers will be able to come down and enjoy some fine wines at great prices, some to savour right away and others to keep for a special occasion down the road."

Participating wine merchants at the fair include Asia Wine Network, Grand Vin, Grape Palate, Crystal Wines, Le Vigne and Wein & Vin.

Mr Patrick Sauze, communications director at RPWA, said the fair presents a unique opportunity for wine explorers to discover the product in a very open format that allows them to taste and compare a curated selection of wines from different parts of the world.

He added: "Some are classics which wine experts will recognise, and there will also be off the beaten track wines.

"Many of the wines in the $40 to $80 price bracket offer great value for money."

Haven't posted in a while but always come in once in a while to get good wine ideas.

Here's a good one I had recently:

DKFvgDk.jpg

Select description on bottle: fresh, well-balanced and very generous wine, with beautiful aromas of strawberries and dried plum. 90% Merlot 10% Cab Franc.

My take: Classic and solid Bordeaux with good vanilla nose and oak flavors. Can taste dried plums, but strawberries?!?

i googled this as the bottles looks v nice.

http://www.pontdesarts-wine.com/en/Wines_list.php?yr=1

It's like a collaboration between artist and winemakers. they source from all over Burgundy and France. Very interesting!

Where'd you purchase it?

Tasting notes on bottles can vary due to temperature, storage conditions, aeration, age etc... but it's not surprising to find strawberry nose on red wines. Grenache is another classic grape with a strawberry nose.

HWZ Blind Tasting Update

For those who contacted me on being keen to join the next session in March, FYI it has been pushed to May as a number of us are in and out of Singapore.

In the meantime you should taste and buy more Rioja Gran Reservas to get a feel of the wine styles as that is the next theme. 2008 (or older) Rioja Gran Reserva Red Wines from Spain.

Bought at a good price in Penang Gurney Paragon B1 wine shop. The problem in SG is that it comes in a set of 3 and cost a bomb. In Penang, they allow you to buy just one bottle.
