decided against Shabuya due to the generally negative online reviews, haha.

btw, crystal wine has some 2008 right bankers on sale. the one that caught my eye (hopefully there's enough left) is the 08 Chateau La Confession for $58. I think that is a good price for a good wine even with the difficult 08 vintage. Unfortunately due to my budgeting for this month and the next, I will not purchasing any.

Hi

Will like to ask how to keep the unfinished bottle of red wine in good condition?
I am the only one at home who takes red wine and normally I cannot finish the whole bottle

Thanks

You have a couple of options:

1) Next time you drink, try to buy half bottles, if possible. Enoteca at the basement of takashimaya has a nice selection of half bottles. Some wine retail stores also have some half bottles. They are definitely more convenient and can be finished by one person

2) Find someone else to drink it with you. Sounds quite ‘duh’ but it really helps, especially when sharing the cost

3) Spend money on gadgets like ‘Wine Save’ which pumps argon gas to ‘preserve’ your wine. Not exactly cheap. Or get those vacuum pumps.

4) If the wine is not a cheap entry level wine, it should be able to last the 24 hours. Just recork it back and put it in a cool place in your house and have it for lunch or dinner the next day. If you are drinking an entry level wine, then don’t bothering saving it, it’s cheap anyway, not some premium bottle of wine.

5) If you know you can’t finish, when you open the bottle, pour out the amount of wine you think you will drink into a pitcher or decanter and slowly drink from there. This lets you quicky screw back or recork the bottle to minimize too much air going in.

6) Really really try hard to finish the whole bottle by yourself.

did i mention a wine name specifically? i can't remember.

depending on what you are ordering you can ask them to make recommendation for a dry (trocken) riesling such as a kabinett, or a slightly sweeter one like a spatlese (shh-pate-lace-uh) or auslese (aous-lace-uh), but it gets pricer as you move from kabinett to auslese

and if would like to try, ask them for some Spatburgunder (shh-pate-burgun-der), which is Pinot Noir. they carry good producers such as Jean Stodden and Becker (or was it Beckman, i forgot).

enjoy the riesling throughout the dinner and let it breathe in the glass. it should evolve nicely. they usually will stick it in the ice bucket for you, so let it warm up a little to fully enjoy the aromas and flavours.

btw, i thought u at resevist now?

here's an interesting question for EVERYONE. there's no right or wrong answer.

Question: Do you prefer red, white, sparkling or sweet wines? and why?

let's get some interesting discussion going on :)

I Used to prefer Red over White as i find the Red more of Fuller Bodied, but when i get to taste the white i noticed that the white are more refreshing and the aftertaste is much more interesting of various fruits.

@reign: how was your MAGMA dinner?

We had the Spatburgunder, i compared this with the NZ and found that this is Much lighter in taste and very strong Mineral taste on the Tongue. It does evolves over the dinner which we took 3hrs! and not forgetting the Ziegler Traminer, Which is Sweet and refreshing and the light after taste of lychee.
