Wah shiok!

Had a busy wine day today:

We had a Rosé by Elio Perrone, a brachetto-moscato blend that surprisingly wasn't too sweet, and the Elderton Ashmead 01 at Imperial Treasure Peking Duck. The Ashmead was nice and mature, if a little woody and spicy, so may not be to everyone's palate. Probably not for fruit-bomb lovers.

Then popped over the 1855 Somerset for the Schiopetto tasting with their wine rep, an Italian charmer who should be a real hit with the ladies. The wines were pretty good too - all whites from the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia region, mostly Collio DOC - including varietal versions of Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco and the indigenous Friulano, as well as the blended Mario Schiopetto Bianco and Blanc Des Rosis. As white wines go these are more mineral, rather than fruit driven, with the aromatic Friulano the exception.

Btw if anyone goes to the L'Operetta chain of Italian restaurants, do give their super aromatic Sicilian white wine Taif Fina Vini a try. I thought it was a Fiano earlier but it's actually made from Zibibbo grapes, a variant of Moscato. Glass/Bottle at $10/48

Dinner should be at J-Pot Vivo City, where I usually favour a German riesling, low alcohol and nice acid, with the hotpot stuff.

So, anyone going for next weekend's big wine events? Wine Fiesta by Straits Wine or NZ Family of 12?

Ahh good the Chinese link. Ugh, time to brush up on my chinese

Like the gahmen say, use it or lose it haha..
But nice to flex those linguistic muscles and indulge in an interest at the same time. I enjoyed it when I went to read all those wuxia novels years back.

In Thailand now. Just drank the 2009 Pian de Ciampolo last night over dinner.

Very nice at 12.5% alc. fresh and lively. the body reminds me of a cab franc from the Loire but with very pure Tuscan flavours.

did you managed to grab a bottle of Thailand-made wine?

i heard there was one particular brand which is not too bad.

Had a really great dinner at one of the restaurants in Thailand that was recently listed in the Top 50 Best Restaurants in the World. Serving Thai food, featuring traditional Thai dishes and modern interpretations.

We drank a glass of 2011 Grosset Watervale Springvale Riesling from Clare Valley.

Random Q: What's the longest time you've stored a bottle of an already opened - and recorked - bottle of wine in the fridge? I've had this Sicilian red that's going about a month plus and I reckon it's still drinkable. If a tad sour haha..

I aleays say Taste and see first loh.

If u got a lot of time and when u taste it sti hasn't fully opened yet, then u can slow ox. If u need something a little quicker like a couple of hours then decant.

Personally for me I double decant when I need to brin the bottle to somewhere else. If not I just leave it in the decanter
